So just wondering if anybody else runs into this problem. Driving around, having a good ole time. And somebody goes "Hey nice vega! Haven't seen one of them in awhile!" or.. "What year mustang is that?". Worst yet "What's a Maverick?" When I ordered my parking permit for school I had to sign up my cars that I would be driving, and they had a drop down list. With almost every single car you could think of, even a mustang II, but I had to use other for the Maverick... The only source of redemption was when somebody said "Hey I like your Maverick." Today. And it was cause he drove a mustang II... So just wondering how weird it is that we know what a maverick is, or if it's weirder that so many around here don't know what they are.

a maverick is car that was only made for 8 years. also it was considered an economy car so it was never susposed to be a collectable car. normal non car enthusiast people will not rember it or know what it is because it never was famous for anything significant.

So far just in the last month my car was called a chevelle twice in one day, a camaro, a Mustang and ready for this! While getting gas I had someone say " hey is that there one of those el caminos" ! I think its funny. The only emblems on my car that say Maverick is the one on the dash and the grille emblem. Im not sure if I am going to put on all of the N.O.S. emblems I bought, back on the car.

I agree with racer x. I like the fact that some people don't know what a maverick is. Most older guys know what it is but all younger guys have no clue. Most common thing I get is "nice mustang". I remember when I was looking for my first "old car" (my maverick) I had no idea what it was, I just loved the fastback look! I didn't want a regular "coupe" looking car.

Lol it certainly does feel better when all your friends talk about their mustangs nd camaros etc etc and you pop out with "Maverick" everyone just shuts up.lol it funny how these cars we're not even meant for racing but they dust big blocks nd other cars meant for racing,,
My neighbors el camino had more break downs than my car had oil changes in one year lol

My car has been mistaken for a Comet GT. I don't understand why. It says Maverick in three places and Grabber in three places. I can understand it could be mistaken for a Mustang going 40mph down the road. I stopped at a gas station the other day and a guy from California got out of his car and took pictures of my car. He new it was a Maverick. Made me feel good!
