well last week or so i finally decided to rip it all apart and get my new heads and pistons and what not together..since we were having troubles with the head studs staying in, but anyways during the disassemble one of my lifters #5 cyl. is chipped as you will see in the pictures (they were brand new couple months ago) and there is a hole blown in the block. but the thing is there is no nothing anywhere, my MSD dist is fine. cams fine, gear drives fine, everything still looks brand new and i can't find any pieces, not even a thing in the oil pan so heres some pic's of it. what do you think happened? could it have been done before i got the car? and i just didn't notice it when i was putting in the lifters and intake because of the location of it? http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/269/img0701sx.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/7/img0700dl.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/571/img0699of.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/846/img0698ns.jpg/
Seen that hole many times. I assume its something from casting. The lifter is a bit odd to do that chip. Perhaps it was damaged before install or a push rod was out of place.
whats in the oil filter? There had to be some ffragments running around inside the motor to chip that lifter. the hole could be a hammer impact.
thanks a lot for that link Darren, so from what i gathered on that site i can grind it out to a nice smooth rounded hole and be happy again?
ITs a funny lookin hole isnt it. I remember seeing it as a teenager on my first tear down. ITs like Ford forgot a drain hole so they punched a hole through the casting. Its pretty crude looking.
