Bored as heck on New Years day so I figured I'd see if my Maverick would run with the carb I got from member Clintd. I bolted it on Christmas Eve but never tried to start it till today. I also got a 5th gen iPod nano so I'm fooling with the video recorder on it too. The car fired up and ran pretty good and I didn't adjust anything. I drove it about a 1/2 mile but the tires are flat spotted BAD (these tires have been on a car that has sit for over 10 years) and the stg is really sloppy but I did just get everything to rebuild it. Anyway I had fun. At least it still runs and I hope to get more done soon...this project is 9 months old now and I don't fell that I've got that much done. I guess I can use the weather as an excuse...it's really been cold up till the past few days.

I made a junky vid with the iPod...come on lets go for a ride! lol

Sorry I killed the vid before I got on the road...I figured I'd have my hands full enough.

Don't feel bad about things going slow, it took me three years or so before I even got to drive mine the first time. That first drive will give you the desire to get it roadworthy quicker, or it did me. Keep it up, you'll get there!:thumbs2::tiphat:

Well I finally got my carb back from the rebuilder. Said he was really backed up is why it took so long. He went over everything he did and what he found. He said the old rebuilt carb I bought off of ebay that was listed as being for Ca emissions was the best to build because it was like new inside and out (remember I gave him 3 YFs and 2 kits and told him to build 1 good carb). But when he got it apart he found a couple of things missing so he took them out of the original carb off of my 250 (the junky one with stripped threads). He also said the carb had the typical metering rod and didn't appear to be Ca emissions. The extra stuff on the carb that I thought were emissions items is actually a bowl vent. The reason it leaked was the accel pump diaphram had cracked. The carb was an old stock rebuilt...so it had just dryed out. He charged $30 so I ain't complaining though next time I'll probably do it myself...I've never worked on a YF so I was reluctant.

So after the carb fiasco this is what I ended up with:

An ebay old stock rebuild that I had freshened up with a new kit
The original one off of the 77 model engine that has stripped bowl threads (used for parts)
The one I got from a member here just to keep it running while my carb was being built
    A 68 model off of a 240 I6 I got from a member here
1 extra Napa kit that wasn't needed

So at least I have a couple back up plans.

Anyway it looks like the cold weather may be gone so I can get started again. It's almost been a year since I started but it is driveable...sort of. Again my plan is to get it back in one piece and work out all of the mechanicals and then pull it down for bodywork, int and paint. The car had sat so long I had rather go that route.

Next on the list is to cut the little diameter exhaust off and run 2" and a muffler dumping in frt of the rear end. That way the tailpipe will be gone so I can start on modifying the trunk floor and getting the new Mustang drop in gas tank installed. I still have some issues with the parking brake that needs some engineering.

Finally! Warm weather so I was able to get the Mav out. Got the carb on, replaced the plugs and wires. The plugs that were in the motor (a Craigslist purchase) were gapped way too tight. It started up and idled perfectly. I even idled it down till it would almost stall just to see if it was running smooth and it seems great. The only issue is a flat spot or stumble on acceleration from a stop. I'll have to do some research on that issue.

Oh and I banged my head on the hood latch.

Nothing to do today so I said screw it, I got the Maverick out and took off. So far I've only driven it in the driveway and up my street once. What started as a run around the block ended up being a 2 hr jaunt all over town. I made several stops for gas, lunch, dog food and beer. I was embarrased to have the poor thing out as it is but you wouldn't believe the attention this thing got. I ran in Foodlion and when I came out there was a small crowd around the car....a couple taking pics. Who'd have thought? (y)

Just wondering, if your mav is a 70 then why does it have amber/orange turn signals? I thought all 70s only came with clear ones?
