I guess you're not going to make long trips with that fuel cell!

Awesome progress and craftsmanship, Frank ! It won't be too much longer and you will get the bittersweet task of dismantling all of that hard work for paint.(y)

Last night I finally remembered what I was working on before I got sidetracked with the parts car..... I was going to make the driveshaft loop so I could get the trans and block out of the engine bay..... So that is exactly what I did today, I built a custom fit loop..... After building, welding and test fitting it I painted it with a coat of POR15.....

Here is the loop welded up on the bench along with the reinforcement/stud plates.....

Here it is while test fitting.....

    and here is everything painted.....

Not really, just looks that way in the pic..... The front edge of the loop will be just behind the u-joint.....

I was gonna say. If it's infront of the U joint it's not going to do you much good. Just putting the front one in??

Hey Frank, I was wondering, are you using anything on the bare metal to keep it from rusting? If so, would you share that info?

    Thanks,
    Brian

Just the front for now, I may add a rear one if I can make it work around the exhaust.....

I have put nothing on it, I have no idea why it hasn't surface rusted more then it is.....

    Thanks.....

I didn't get alot done this morning, primarily because I didn't feel like working on anything..... I did get the drive shaft loop installed, then removed the block, trans and steering column/brake brackets from inside..... Now I have more room to work in the front.....

This one is for Recrdholdr, directly under the loop with the yoke pulled out of the trans 1.25".....

    and the rest.....

Is that 1.25" out of the transmission a common dimension that you look for when building a drive shaft?

That's what I have always used at ride height on a leaf spring car..... On 4link or ladderbar cars I usually tighten that up to 1" or a little less since these suspensions have less overall movement.....

After a little clean up this morning I made two of the mounting blocks for the front mounted fuel cell, I will get these welded on the cell at work so I can fit the cell and make the last mounting plate for it..... I also got the upper radiator mounting plate attached to the radiator, then drilled the core support and welded nuts to the bottom side.....

Here's the fuel cell mounting blocks.....
