Planning on replacing the headliner in my vehicle, of course it needs to be done prior to windshield reinstallation. Can any of you "seasoned professionals" having had experience with headliners please offer some advice?

    1) SOURCES: What sources have you personally used, and how was the quality/cost?
    2) INSTALLATION: If you have personally done this, what was your experience like and what pitfalls would you suggest avoiding? For a "do-it-yourselfer", is it something that can be done without difficulty if great care is taken?

    Thank you!!

    Chris

    1. Auto Krafters sells the headliner. Worked fine in my car.

2.. I had mine professionally installed. If you want tips...just do a search on this board...or google it. Lots of websites with "how-to" articles on installing a headliner. Probably a YouTube video or two as well.

Are you working on a Mav or on the car in your signature? If its the Pinto, you may be better off to seek a good interior shop as they may have to use your original as a pattern. I was quoted ~$350 without a headliner, $150 if I supplied the headliner.

I just got mine from AutoKrafters two days ago. I think it was like $70. The body shop is gonna put it in.

    Hey Chris,

    How ya doing?

Chris does have a Pinto; but, hangs with us North Texas maverick guys.

I agree with above. Find a local shop. I don't know any off hand.

Yeah, you caught me ;). It's the Pinto wagon. I know I can get one from SMS auto fabrics for $215, but installation? Man, $400 for a headliner is a lot of $$. Of course, mine has but ONE tear in it, right over the driver's head. GRR....

Doing OK Rick. About to pop the motor and tranny back in my car this weekend. Man, you gotta see this. It's unbelievable, there's not a single thing I have not touched on this car, it's gonna look like a new car!!

I bought one from SMS, and one from Auto Krafters, no issues.
It's not as bad as everyone thinks, just take your time, and double check before you cut.
I bought 2 bags of clothes pins from the dollar store, and headliner glue from National Parts Depot.
    Double check the rod placements.

Put all screws/fasteners in place that pass through the headliner, before installation...That way you will be able to find the holes to mount the visors etc...

These clamps from an office supply store will hold the headliner in place while you work the wrinkles out. Let the glue dry for a minute or so before putting the headliner in place. Otherwise it won't stick as well.
