producing a charge.... plus on top of it all power steering cylinder is pouring out fluid. there went the money i was going to use on the trunk reso.
make sure u have a 9-12v power source running to the regulator. it acts kinda like a "switch" to turn it on, just cant remember which wire it is but i think its the green/red stripe one
You can pick up a gm one wire style alternator at autozone (duralast says gm one wire on the box) it will have to be slightly modded but its easy to put on and will get rid of the stock ford clutter and your charging problems
Most electronic regulators won't get excited unless you rev the engine up to 3000+ rpm. I went through 3 regulators before I found one to 'switch on' without waking the neighbors at 4:00am.
clean off where you mounted the regulator and make sure it is getting a good ground i don't know about the ford regulators but my dodge truck one grounds through the screws that mount it, my maverick one looks like the same style, drain your power steering pump and get some power steering fluid stop leak and conditioner it fixed the leak on my dodge
its a bummer but old cars ALWAYS cost more to run or restore than you budget allows just keep on plugging away at it and eventually you will go broke building it but hey its worth it when it all comes together
yeah but when every month something is wrong it becomes annual bill in my budget lol i drove it to my fathers and the volt gauge was reading normal then jump to 18 then down to 8 then back to normal (13.6) powersteering was a loose hose thank goodnes. right now i am waiting for the motor to cool off so i can run a new line for the oil pressure gauge. what does it mean if the oil light on then went away it came on when i changed the charging unit i checked the oil but it is full. also i have a aftermarket gauge on my car i didnt know the factory oil light still worked. i tested the alt. said my amperage is below 30 but its a brand new one. could it be wired wrong
Does your alt light on the dash light up when you turn the ignition on??? If not the alt wont charge...May just have to replace the bulb. Good luck!!!
the wire that went to the oil pressure switch may be siting loose in the engine compartment and may be shorting out on something.
