My C4 runs over 200 on hot days and in SoCal bumper to bumper freeway traffic. Talking street car here.. I need a cooler, only which one?? I want to mount it in front of the radiator.. What brand and model have you used, Hayden, Fram, TCI, B&M... there is a bewildering selection. I don't mind spending money on a big one, if it doesn't cause the temp to be too low in winter weather! So what brand and size, model??? p.s. I've searched 100 threads...cant find any hard info. hayden,flexilite,b&m all good brands and usually easy to find at parts stores 25-50 bucks. ebay is also a good place to shop for one. no need for a big heavy duty unit a lite duty would be fine along lines of extra 2500lbs towing rating. hook up is easy, trans to rad, rad to cooler, cooler to trans.
I assume u have a temp gauge on the C4? U running AC? I don't believe u will have problem running it to cool in So. Cal. Im running a B&M Super # 70268 11*7.5*.75". I don't have a gauge on it - so don't know what temps are running.

Yes I'm in SoCal but we have hot Santana winds here at times in the winter... 90 degrees and sitting on the 405 Fwy in bumper to bumper aint no picnic...lol Now that I have the trans temp guage, I know how I've been torturing my tranny.... ignorance was bliss! Mojo...that B&M is a really nice cooler.. I read up on it and it has a bypass feature that allows it to cool less when the fluid is cold.

if the trans and motor is stock then the one in the radiator should be fine.usually they only get hot if you put a higher stall converter in the trans,or the trans is slipping and cousing it to heat up.if you are useing the radiator and the car is running 195deg than so it the tranny.i useually dont use the radiator one and just use a decent size cooler up front.this way if the engine is running hot it doesnt make the tranny run hot.
There is no such thing as too much cooling unless you drive in weather that will keep your transmission from getting to 120F. Between 120 and 170F you are just fine. In 40 years of building transmissions I have never seen a failure that was caused by running too cold. Most fail as a result of heat, some due to normal wear and fewer still from breakage. Get the big Hayden and rest your mind.
This is a great option and great price. Nice unit! At 10 *12* 4" it's a pretty nice size unit. Where do u plan on mounting it? Not a lot of extra space on a Mav esp if u have pwr accessories.
I am going to make a plate that matches the drivers side in front of the shock tower, cut out the battery mounting area and mount it there. I will take it down to a local body shop before welding in the plate and have it louvered so the louver openings are facing down and to the outside of the engine compartment. That should do 2 things for me, get some more air flow in the engine compartment and keep and water from being forced into the louvers. Not to mention the cooling effects on the trans fluid. I am also going to mount one on the drivers side the same way for oil cooling.
OK 169! Seems u have a plan. Sounds like great ideas. I guess on a Pro Street car generally u don't have much in the way of accessories. Wud like to see some pix of the setup when done. With one's battery relocated it doe's free up a nice amt of space.
