I have seen a few Mavs/Comets that have had their antennas removed and the hole filled. One one hand I like the clean look, but on the other I think its weird not an antenna? I was just wondering anyone elses thoughts on the removal of the antenna. I am thinking of deleting mine.
I think someone used a foxbody delete plate on theirs, I think it was Russ? EDIT: it was him^ I removed mine and placed it under the fender, it still gets the stations perfectly.
I say delete it. Somehow we totally missed doing that on my build. I didnt even clue in till after it was painted. Its my one true regret. IT was in my original build plans.
do any of you guys with the delete run radios in your car? I am thinking of gutting my AM and hiding a amp/volume control in it for my mp3 player
i was going to delete it...but then forgot and next thing i know it was painted. now i have a hole in my fender lol...but i like the look without an antenna WAY better.
Depending on the MP3 player, some of them have a FM Radio built into it. I'm actually building a hidden radio system for another car of mine with an iPod Nano (5th Gen) as the radio source so I can keep the factory AM radio in the dash and have everything look stock for the shows. I also have a bunch of period correct music to load on it that I can play for everyone looking at the car. I'm not sure if he's still in business with this wonderful economy we have right now, but another option is there was a guy in Texas that would convert your original AM radio over to a digital FM radio that looks 100% stock when the radio is turned off. One of the older gentlemen that frequent the local shows has one done by him in a '57 Thunderbird and it works great. Unless you shine a flashlight in the indicator window to see the L.E.D. panel, you can't tell it's not a completely stock radio. I can't remember who did the conversion, but it should be able to be found on an internet search easy enough. If you decide to delete the antenna and still want a playable radio, you can get an amplified hidden antenna made for street rods. A friend of mine has one that he bought off eBay mounted under the front cowl of his Golf Cart and the stupid thing gets better radio reception than my '08 F-150! -Scott H.
I have a conventional antenna on the Maverick, but my '66 Fairlane is a radio-delete car, so I hid a stereo in the glove box and have one of these antennas in the trunk, under the package tray: http://www.tunetrapper.com/Hidden_Car_Antennas.html
New Technology I prefer the new technology ie internet radio. For me tuning the local radio station is in the past...Ford has an awesome system in the new cars: http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/features/entertainment/
