91 aod married to it right now.. originally we had a c4 years back well do to money issues, i bought a rebuilt c4 with new converter for $300 lol... now when i go to take the aod out and put the c4 in... will i need to mess with the cross member?? i assume its the same cross member we had in it before we put the aod in it.... but im not sure, may have been modified..
it's been been modified..motor plate and flexplate should be different also...driveshaft may have been shortened...
both trannys are the same in length, for the driveshaft is the original we had built from the early 00's b4 we converted it from c4 to aod.. and the torque converter colts match up on both trannys.. 8inx8in.. i believe its the same mount just drilled and moved back.. ill try an take some pictures today, im getting ready to go tinker on it at the shop a bit.
my driveshaft was the stock length also. some said they had to shorten theirs. i'm thinking the snout is different on the converters...
Ok.. ill look over a few things.. but the shaft was a custom shaft we had built for the c4 when we put a 9in in the rear
You WILL need the Flexplate to match the C4, the AOD flexplate is too big. Also the block plate is different, the bolt holes line up but you wont get the starter or inspection cover on. And the starter is different. Read the AOD to C4 swap threads and you will see the difference. Now if yo uhave a newer 5.0 50oz. motor you are going to have to buy an aftermarket flexplate to match the 50oz. balance motor and the C4 convertor. they are sold on Speedway motors and on Amazon.com, around $50.
It should work. The transmission is the same just some had a convertor with a 10.5" bolt pattern and some had a 11.5" bolt pattern. If your bolt cirlce is the 10.5" then you can use those two 157 tooth flywheels I listed. If it is 11.5" then you need to get the 164 tooth 50oz flexplate.
You could be right Frank but I dont see any rhyme or reason behind where the size difference is. Some aftermarket manufacturers just say C4 and what bolt spacing. Some say pan or case mounted dipstick. A few list the crank hole size. I just looked at one brand earlier and all it cared about was what year range of C4. By looking at all this on Summits website I would be glad you have the stuff there to just test fit instead of ordering and hoping it fits. http://www.summitracing.com/search/.../Make/FORD/Transmission-Type/C-4/?Ns=Rank|Asc
