Our carpet came in today, which put me on the track of underlayment.

I was considering coating the entire cabin floor with bed liner - actually I'm still thinking about that - but searching here on the trusty forums, led me to a nifty product called "Peel & Seal." Basically this is a roof repair solution found at Lowes, but seems to also be used as a low-cost rival to Dynamat for sound deadening.

Anyhoo - after searching on line I found the company that makes Peel & Seal here:

    http://www.cofair.com/roof.aspx
    http://www.cofair.com/peel_seal.aspx

You'll see "Peel & Seal" in the lefthand navigation. But the page you land on is about another product called Quick-Roof which seems to be basically the same stuff just in larger rolls.

And here is a link to an online retailer who sells both the aluminum and white versions of Quick-Roof in 18" and 33" wide rolls.

    http://www.gibraltarbrands.com/ProductCart/pc/viewcategories.asp?idCategory=2&pageStyle=H

And here's something else that looks really cool from the same company...

    http://www.cofair.com/wind_waterguard.aspx

Just fodder for the ongoing discussions...

Peel and Seal being 6" wide makes it easier to apply. When I did my Maverick I cut it no longer than 10"-12" strips. I wouldn't want to try and do a car with 18" or 33" wide...nothing is really flat enough to justify that width. Peel and Seal sticks once it touches anything.

I have about 10 rolls in my Mav. 3 layers on the toe board/firewall to windshield pinch weld. 2 layers on the floor and 1 layer on the roof. I still need to go back and do the inside the doors and quarter panels...maybe inside the trunk. Each roll weighs close to 4 lbs.

Why the different layers? Wouldn't one layer be good?

Yea lowes carries the stuff, real good stuff; I used in my 4 door, gave some spring to the vinyl floor also.

I would reccomend truck bed liner as well, inside

I sanded and cleaned the metal good before spraying 2 coats of Rust Bullet over a two day span. I gave the Rust Bullet two more days to dry before applying the Peel and Seal. I didn't see any signs of the P&S letting go with the car sitting outside for 2 or 3 weeks in the 100+ degree heat with the windows rolled up. I even tried to peel it off to make sure and it wasn’t going to happen before having the headliner installed.
