I am looking for pictures and tips on how you guys installed aftermarket 3 point seat belts with retractors in a 1972 2 door maverick.
here is mine installed, unfortunately I could not get the stiff buckle ends to line up where I wanted them so they flop around the interior. the buckle end mounts in the stock holes, the upper guide for the shoulder end goes in the stock hole as well and the lower retractor I drilled a hole and used an angle bracket provided by the seatbelt supplier to mount the retractor away from the side interior panel. I used a fill plate to go around the belt through the panel from the 3rd row belts on a 2003 expedition
Yes, with the exception of the retractor bracket. I drilled through the floor instead of the b-pillar and used an angle bracket hardware kit to position it. The installation in that link probably would work in the Mav too, I just used what they recommended when I ordered the kit and I wanted the hole in the panel to be as close as possible to the flat portion of the armrest in the panel so the hole could be as small as possible without dragging but that could also be accomplished using spacers if it didn't line up just right.
I used a set of the Julianos 3 point seat belts. I would recommend using the 8" drop for the top mount point. If you just mount it to the top anchor point, the belt pulls across your neck and can become very uncomfortable on long drives. Look at the 74 and later Mavericks to see what I am talking about for the belt drop.
I got belt drops out of a 90s Ford church van. They mount to the original upper shoulder belt position.
