A few years ago I bought a set of brackets from Currie Enterprises to install Cobra disc brakes on the Versailles diff I'm installing in my Maverick. I'm finally
approaching the time to put this car on the street and need help selecting
wheels. The brake kit is intended to be used with the factory 1994-2004 Mustang Cobra calipers with integral parking brake. Apparently this kit will not work with 5 on 5 1/2" wheel bolt pattern. I also understand that I won't be able to run ordinary 14" steelies. I think the rotors are too big (11.65", if my information is correct). I'd really like to run stock looking steelies with poverty caps on them. Can anyone advise me as to what options I might have to do this? Thanks for whatever suggestions you have to make. Maybe some steel wheels from a Crown Vic, or a F150, if they have the same bolt pattern. With the Cobra brakes you need a 17" wheel regardless.

if your axles are Versailles axles they should be 5x4.5 bolt pattern. the 5x5.5 bolt patern is a full size truck pattern. the cobra brakes should have the 5x4.5 pattern. they do require 17" wheels. i think a company called wheel vintiques makes 17" steel wheels.

    Thanks Darren and others.
In case this is useful to anyone else, apparently the bolt pattern on the 1994-2004 Cobra wheels is; Metric: 5 X 114.3 or Standard: 5 X 4.5
Any other options out there? Those Vintiques wheels look dandy, but at $209.95 each, they're not giving them away!

If you can live with a lot of positive offset, Crown Vic steel police wheels are the right bolt pattern.

In the course of looking up the pattern to make sure it is right, I did stumble across info that stated you would want wheels made from 2006 and up. Earlier steel wheels for Vics had a LOT of problems, apparently.

If you want steel I'm thinking you're probably going to have to go aftermarket. I don't ever remember seeing stock steel wheels at 17".

What Bryant said is correct, the caliper from the Cobra will not fit anywheel smaller than 17" because of the steel wheel center is tapered right where to caliper is although I suppose you could grind on the caliper. Try Coker, they are now making 17, 18, and 20" in steel wheels. Not sure what off-set you want but
that may be limited in the aftermarket steel wheels.
Try their 800-242-0009 number, but make sure you have the off-set you need for the Maverick.

Pretty sure that Coker gets their wheels like you describe from Wheel Vintiques. Might be able to get a better deal going direct.

Coker makes there own steel wheels from 17" to 20".
A company in Portland, OR makes all of Cokers
    smaller wheels.

About the following Vintiques wheels, I asked Summit Racing "Will early '70s Ford dog dish / poverty caps fit these wheels?"
    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WVI-62-7812044/

    They responded;
"If they have the standard 10-1/8" inside diameter, they will fit these wheels."

Does anyone know the inside diameter of the early Mav dog dish caps? I wonder if they would fit the Crown Vic steel police wheels?

The Crown Vic small poverty style caps snap onto the lug nuts, not the wheel, so there aren't any "bumps" for the Maverick caps to fit.

When I had a 96 Cobra I ran some 15" wheels from a older Dodge,Chrysler and had no problems with the calipers hitting, I dont know if this application will work for you or not. I believe they are 15x7 with a 3 1/2" offset.

I think I still have a set of them and can take some pics if you would like to see them

I just measured a poverty hubcap and the inside diameter is 10 1/8

now that im thinking about it, the 17s were required for the front cobra brakes. the rear cobra brakes were bigger than the standard mustang but smaller than the front cobra brakes. looks like you need to do some test fitting.

The Mustang Cobra uses 11.65" rear rotors.
I know this is after the fact, but 94-04 Mustang GT's use a 12.5" front rotor instead of the 13" on the Cobra if that would be of any help.

The above may be someone you could call and ask questions regarding this install.
