The forum was not available for a good part of the day due to the site exceeding the monthly bandwidth limit. I raised the limit it can use so this should not happen again under normal circumstances.

I wondered what that was about. I got a exceeded bandwidth window. Thought it was my ISP since Im over this month. Actually I just shut down Netflix till next week so I dont have to pay Bell more money.
Bell is gone for me this Friday though and in comes cable with no cap. Yahoo....

If you dont mind, what is the limit? And is this an issue of not enough supporting members?

The server package comes with 1.5 TB of bandwidth per month and I set a "soft" limit for this forum to 250 gigs. I set this low limit as a way to shut down the site in case something were to happen (eg DOS) and lots of bandwidth was being consumed.

In this case, nothing bad happened to the site. Bandwidth consumed by the site has been on the rise due to larger pictures being uploaded, which in turn requires more bandwidth for the off site backups. I also tweaked the offsite backup strategy and testing it out consumed extra bandwidth this month.

Is there a plugin to offload some of the pics to photbucket or something? I know a lot of people link to that now.

I was going through withdraw as well. Several members emailed me asking where the "board" was. Mass hysteria....havoc in the streets.....dogs and cats living together!!!!

Maybe we will have to be careful in posting HUGE pictures to the board. I know Stefan will take care of it. I know he has rules in place (like needlessly digging up old threads) to help keep the bandwidth down. No worries folks. Move along...nothing to see here. :D

I had a bunch of forum members over to my Facebook last night to console each other. It got pretty ugly after a while - they drank all of my beer, peed in my front lawn, scared my cats among other unmentionable acts. I finally had to throw them all out, shut the lights off and pretend I wasn't home.

Thank you Stefan for keeping us sane (or insane-depends on how you look at it) :bananaman

Glad the site is up and running agn. I posted a pic last week that was big, un-intenionally. It is the only large pix I can recall posting. I did'nt know it was going to be that big. I do however recall posting it using a different procedure than I normally use. I thought abt the bandwidth after one of the moderators removed the pix but left the post "Thanks". It really dawned on me yesterday when I got the "509 error message"; I will be mindful of that and do only small pix frm now on. I don't like to be the one rockin the boat. :) Like someone posted earlier; I got a chance to put some time on other things not being at this dang keyboard...

The pics I attached early on were too big. Lately I have been resizing to attach smaller files. Just deleted a bunch that were over 300 Kb.

Guess I wasn't thinking of them causing a bandwidth problem and wasn't too concerned since it wasn't close to the max allowed space yet.

I use Photobucket to host my pics. I put the little Image Code to display pictures. Does it count as mmb.maverick.to bandwidth if the post's images are linked instead of attachments?
