Looking to get my maverick back to a daily driver and I need to seal the body and protect it from UV damage just a cheap paint job since Im putting my money to the engine and transmission.I'm going to do a proper paint job next year. Ive hear of using rustoleum cans from homedepot and thinning itout and it holds up for a while and I've read good things about Eastwood's hot rod black kit and hot rods flats kit. What you y'all know about. This?
I know the major downfall with the Rustoleum is you'll have to strip it completely when you decide to put something else on it later. So if you're planning a proper paint job next year, you'll cause yourself quite a lot of extra work if you do it that way.
Dont use rustoleum...You will have to strip it off to re-paint....If you use the easwood stuff...you can use it as ahot rod flats as a base later but you will have to use eastwoods paints over the top of it...You dont want to mix paint systems from different manufacturers.
im going to strip it all down and do it right when i paint her for real next year but here is the hot rod black and the primer i was going to use together if it lasts a yea ill be happy http://www.eastwood.com/rat-rod-flat-black-paint-kit.html http://www.eastwood.com/ew-2k-urethane-primer-gray-gallon-4-1.html
Both of the Eastwood paints that you listed are urethane two part catalyzed products that should hold up very well and can be painted over without having to strip it off to apply a different topcoat later. The flat black paint helps to hide imperfections that are common with "do it yourself" paint jobs done at home in a garage versus in a professional spray booth. Additionally, there will be no need to wet sand and polish afterward which eliminates some extra work. If your not looking for a show paint job and want to get the car all one color on the cheap, I say go for it!
I used the Eastwood 2K urethane primer under Nason single stage urethane with no apparent problems. I did sand the primer before the color coat.
I'm looking at summits hotrod black, witch I think is eastwood paint rebranded.... I think it was around $110 bucks for a gal. kit....
Powerblock TV is featuring Summit's house brand paint. I looked at it on their website ... found a green I like ... Paint is still a long way off for me though .... sigh .... I think combining "quick" and "cheap" with regard to a paint job is a formula for failure. You may be able to get away with one or the other, and possibly end up with acceptable results, but I doubt you can get away with both.
Yea I know that quick and cheap should never be in the same sentence as paint but I just need to seal the body protect it I'm going to get the kit from Eastwood and ill post as I do it in so y'all can see how it turns out thanks guys
How about Macco. They have a winter sale price now. $ 249. Thats the price here in Virginia. It will look better than than the way your going to paint it, last longer, and be a great base coat for the good paint job down the road. Plus, they do all the work. Just a thought. Good luck.
