What is the correct paint color for the black interior in my 72 grabber? I need to paint the dash, inner doors, etc. Is it just a satin black or does it have some metallic or something in it? Is there a paint code for it?
For the dash plastic pieces, SEM #15243 Satin Black. For the dash metal pieces, SEM #HR010 Satin Black kit. I asked around a while back, and this is what I plan on using.
If the surface is clean & prepped, it should hold up fine. I am in the process of adding factory A/C to my '69 Fairlane, which includes replacing the dash. I just painted it yesterday with the same charcoal metallic. It is a Seymour product, distributed by Scott Drake. I don't recall which Mustang parts house I bought it from, but many of them carry it. The Scott Drake part # on the can is L-4464. The part # from the Mustang supplier is AP-4464. (I think that is an NPD Mustang number.)
Use a fine Scotch-Brite pad and get all the nooks and crannys. Once that is done, wipe it down a couple times with a wax & grease remover, like Prep-Sol. If there are any bare areas, or if it appears that a part has repianted previoisly, apply a coat of primer. Spray the black on in a few thin coats. It is fairly transparent paint, so don't try to lay it all down on the first coat.
Scrub the heck out of the stuff you are going to paint with comet cleanser, rinse and dry components...Now do any sanding/repair work...Then use SEM precleaner then prime , wetsand and paint.
That's why I sandblasted all my jambs and textured areas. Texture still looks great and should look good with color on it.
interior paint color for a beige interior Just want to know if you know the SEM# for a beige interior for doors and door panels. Thanks.
