I agree! I have seen some work at car shows that comes close and in a lot cases, match, anything I've seen by pro carbuilders. I've seen some cars painted in home garages that u wud not believe were painted there...
Not to take the thread off topic but I've also seen many vehicles at car shows and the owners say they painted it outside in their driveway or backyard, and it looks flawless to me. :Handshake
My only total car paint was done in a shed. Nibs everywhere, a bee doing the back stroke on the roof and another bug in the front fender. Everything sanded and buffed out. Its not perfect -- I know where all the flaws are -- but not many others notice or comment on them. Get lots of compliments on the paint. Urethane is very forgiving if you have the time to work out the flaws. Best advice I read was "don't expect perfection on your first paint job".
PPG on my car. Urethane. Painter at work saved his PPG urethane for my car. We switched to water based before my car was complete. I cant say much from a technical view point but I can tell you that this paint went on great. Also had a great painter and very fussy prep man guiding me along the way. The Urethane worked out very well for my solid color. Touch ups and repairs and real easy. Even small chips are filled with touch up containing hardener. Wet sand and polish. Very forgiving. I always liked the look of PPG urethane especially with the solids. Triple black being my fav. Lots of good advice on here so far. My painter was nuts about scuffing with a pad just like Glenn mentioned. Heres mine right out of the oven so to speak. We didnt even have to wet sand or polish it. Man I love new paint.
