I would almost agree with what you say(I do agree it could be the main) but again at this point since it has ran I would pull it and tear it all apart regardless....IMHO it is not worth missing something that might have gotten messed up running and getting no oil at this point damage will occur fast when there is zero oil getting to a part that has friction.....again just an opinion and your advice is very sound.....lets just hope all that motor lube assembly he used saves the day!!!!!
Thats what I was thinking Ryan. if I get no oil at the crossover plug the motor is coming out.I think 4 and 8 get the oil first. Geez. What a pain.
i worked in a auto machine shop(race stuff) part time for about 5 years. Generally speaking it was almost always something easy to fix....but I was the helper then again....(didn't even really get paid just got to do free work on my own stuff and families) and could pass on anything I did not want to mess with
It's a solid lifter cam. I'm going to pull the crossover plug and prime the motor again. If no oil. Pull it out on monday.
btw Ill be out in Phoenix around st patricks day for my best friends wedding if any of you maverick guys wanna go out for a lunch/dinner to bs....

Now that is odd.....two weddings....I think my best bud Patricks is on St patricks day....it is his bday as well.....I may be able to stay a while or not.....just depends....I have not made my mind up.....I may fly or drive....if I fly it will be there and back in 3 days or less...if I drive I might take a couple weeks off of work to enjoy the view....I love it out there I lived out there twice!!!
I may be way off here...but I'm sure you have stud mounted rockers so that means the only way oil gets up to the rockers is thru the lifters and pushrods...so are the lifters oil thru type?
#1 main bearing upper insert may be installed wrong...Has no oil pass thrugh hole or the oil gallery from the #1 main is plugged???????????
In the front of the block, the 3 galley plugs. Two are for the lifter galleys. One is for the main galley. If one of those plugs is driven in too far (frost plug style) or a regular 1/4 NPT tap is used and tapped too deep (screw in style), the passage can become blocked. Easy to do, I've done it myself. Some cheap-o NPT plugs are smaller than what they should be and will go in too deep. Most dedicated automotive engine USA made plugs are larger than a regular NPT plug and won't go in as deep. Might or might not be a problem on yours but worth mentioning nonetheless. It's a big problem on backyard mechanic-built 429's and 460's where the main galley intersection at the front is shallower in the block than the windsor engines are. Very easy on the 385 series engines to block that passage! Normally on 460's I'll screw a plug in and look up through the main bearing passage with the crank out. If the plug is in too far, you'll see plug threads so far in that it's totally blocked the passage that interesects. I haven't done a 5.0/302 in a while and I can't remember if the main passage is large enough to actually see in there with a flashlight.
