My son and I are trying to do a conversion form drum to disc brakes on our 73 Comet. But are running into trouble trying to find what would be a bolt on swap. We've read that Granadas and Monarchs are a direct swap. But does anyone know about Lincoln Versailles? We've found one with front and rear disc brakes, but don't know if they'll fit. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!
The Versailles will work on the rear, however Explorer rear brakes are a better fit. The Granada is the best way to go up front on the Mavericks. You can get brand new Granada Spindles and all the parts from SSBC (Stainless Steel Brakes Co.), but if you can find good used to work with you will save a ton. Other aftermarket companies make kits as well, but they tend to get expensive.
dont hold me to it but if memory serves me correct there were to platforms for the lincoln versailles the early one being built on the monarch-granada platform and the later one being of the ltd II platform so my guess would be if it's an earlier style the spindles should be the same but being a lincoln i'm not sure if the rotor diameter is the same or larger than a granada rotor maybe someone else will know
Yea we've looked at buying new, but like you said it tends to get expensive. So we've been trying to find something used. Which seems nearly impossible. We found a Versailles, at a good price and were just curious if they'd fit. Thank you
There should be one of the Georgia boys that can fix you up with all the parts you'll need, PM 71gold, he'll find what you need, or someone that has it.
i am putting some on my maverick. the only differance is the lower balls joint hole. I am using the lower arms with the versalles ball joints. If ur using a maverick lower you can get an adapter from mustangsteve.com Just google versalles on a mustang and their is a bunch of info
If you found a versailles with a working brake system for a good price I would jump on it. I would bolt that 9" right in and utilize as much of the brake system as possible. How much for the Versailles? I have seen that rear sell for big money on ebay. If you want aftermarket I would still part out the lincoln. That could help fund your project. Its debatable if the versailles brakes are worth the effort but that rear will fetch some good money in the old ford community.
IIRC there is a difference in Versailles spindles vs Granada/Monarch that may give you a problem ... either a ball joint or tie rod end difference. Careful. Whenever doing a disc brake swap, get the tie rod ends that match the spindle. Edit ... just did a search ... it is the ball joint that is different on a Versailles. see this article .... http://www.vintage-mustang.com/topics/faq/drumtodisk.html
you may want to check and see if you can get replacement parts for the...versailles brake system. Guy down the street from me had another Granada disc setup for sale...I just got one set from him for a Guy with a maverick the other day...direct bolt up... I can check and see if he still has them if you like... ...:Handshake...
I Have a set of complete 75 Mercury Front Comet Disc brakes. I have the spindles and complete inner and outer tie rods still on it. If you are interested?
Yes, but mine look alittle better! LOL I bought them for my 72 grabber but instead Im going with the coilover Rack and pinion front end on mine. I gave $250.00 for the pair, Would like to get that back out of it....
dos anybody has the shoulder bolts for the mav brakes ???? I seem to be missing mine Help anybody : ?
