Man you ruined our fun trying to analyze the problem Glad you figured it out. What made you go out and try putting tranny in again. I hate putting automatic trannys in even when you have good working conditions.
No foxes in our shop... but I swear I have chased atleast 2 dozen wild geese through there! Glad you got it figured out.
1. The thought of 4.5 hours of driving on Monday. 2. The potential embarassment if I overlooked something. 3. Got thinking that the gap between the bell housing and the block was bigger than the 3/8" difference in TC penetration. Had to be something else. I had gotten a good eyeball on the position of the TC when the trans wouldn't go in. Even though I was absolutely certain the TC had been in all the way, did a test install with the transmission out. The TC went 3/4" in farther than where it was when the trans wouldn't install. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Anyway, I'm having fun again. And, it looks like I WILL be able to take the car to the big Spring show and car flea market at the fairgrounds next weekend. Then, when my buddy is ready with his Trailblazer SS, I'll give him another go with the new drag radials and TC. Man, that thing is fast for a big SUV.
Well at least you did not put the bolts in the bell housing and just pull it all together like some people have done, that will ruin your day real quick. I will be waiting to hear how it goes with new tc in it. Have fun be safe and as Frank would say make some tire smoke
First picture shows the shaft inserted all the way in the stock converter. Made a mark which is hard to see in this picture. Second picture shows the shaft inserted as far as it will go in the TCI TC and the mark from the stock converter up about 3/8" on the shaft. Two pictures were supposed to show the different penetration. Turns out it wasn't the problem so much ado about nothing.
Like the Converter Took the Sprint for a spin with the new 2400 stall converter. Big improvements. It idles MUCH better. :bananaman I dropped the no-load idle to about 1050 and it idles nicely at 900 in gear with 100A alternator running the elect fan. And, when I'm putting thru the neighborhood at 25-30 MPG its not lugging. Higher stall allows the engine to run a few hundred RPMs faster under power at low speeds. All this makes the car nicer to drive. Now, where is that Trailblazer SS??
Think you'd like the change. I'm hoping the small trans cooler will handle the extra heat. The real test for that won't happen for a few months.
