when i put my comet into drive or reverse it thumps into gear and if i dont push hard enough on to the brake the tires burn out. Could my idle be to high?

Idle real high and check the rear brake function. Could have seized wheel cylinders etc.

Is this all the time, or just when the car is cold? If it's only when the car is cold, the choke idle speed is set too high. If it's all the time, it's more than likely the curb idle speed, which on some models is adjusted with an anti-dieseling solenoid. Check your idle speed with a tach and see if it is correct for your model. :)

seem like my passenger rear brake needs to be replaced, it make a rattling sound while driving and when i push the brake. And this happens all the time once put into gear, its much better now since i lowered the idle it doesnt jump
