Any automotive glass shop, should be able to order a gasket from there supplier. They are made by Pilkington, which is an aftermarket company. PPG still makes replacement windshields, but if yours is good, just replace the gasket.
Good news, kinda. Took the car to another windshield installer just now. He peeled the weatherstrip back and said "this windshield has never been properly sealed. I can tell by the stain on your dash that its been seeping in through the bottom of the windshield. Drop it off one night and I'll have it ready the next day. Will cost between $75-$100, worst-case scenario." :: squeeked by with this one. I hope this fixes the problem!
Sounds like a good deal to me. Not all shops know how to install the old windshields. That's where a lot of leaks cpme from.
I have a VERY Leaky windshield, you can actually see the little rivers run down way to Back of the dash pad, then you have wet feet. Anyway I was going to take out the top trim, and apply some transparent silicone to the windscreen to try and stop the leaking, but then I saw your post and I had to ask: Why not apply silicone to the windshield? Does something bad can happen? Thanks!
check for the cool vent i had the same problem with mine and it was not the windshield ,so i took some plastic roof seallant and i did pass my arms by the inside floor vent to seal that
The leak starts on thetop ofthe windscreen then it goes down to the dash pad, it even wets your legs as you drive, the drops coming from the joint of the windscreen and the roof.
Well the main reason would be that the guy at the glass shop told that he has to take the windscreen out and that it's most likely that he break it in the process. AND, he said he doesn't have the replacement! So, that's why.
Find another glass shop....that guy is a goober. I have removed probably 40 windshields, I haven't broke one yet. You just need to find somebody who knows what they are doing (with old cars).
Removing the windshield without breaking it is easy -- IF you cut the gasket. Gasket should be cut from the outside all the way around. Cut it at the edge of the windshield, remove the cut off piece, and the glass will lift right out.
