I have decided to go ahead and do the "Cut out the spot welds" version of the cowl repair. How do I know exactly where to cut with the spot weld cutter? What is the best way to get the windshield out and remove the chrome around it? Also, what is the best way to weld it back? (the cowl that is) I've read a few of the posts on this. Was just hoping for some more detailed in-depth information. Here is what mine looks like. GOTTA be repaired, no doubt:
Look at the cowl, you'll see small round spots where it's been spot welded. Use a spring loaded center punch to make a dimple in the center of the spot weld, that will help the spot welder stay where it need to be. Did I mention you should buy a good spot weld cutter, or a few cheap ones. Do you have a welder? It's not really a job for someone without much experiance,it's a lot of work and could be discouraging...... Lots of pictures of it being done in my project, in the project section, and other cars also.

I already have a list of items I need to get this weekend. A few of those spot weld cutters were on the list. Spring loaded center punch was not. As for the welder, I'm going to rent one for the entire weekend and get a feel for it before I go out and make a purchase of one. Any tips on the windshield and the windshield chrome?
I'm already planning on doing that. Was just looking for some tips on the easiest ways to take the chrome off and the windshield.
just from looking in the drain hole it looks like there will be some fab work to be done. do you have any pics of under the bottom side?
@ResidentEvilRoc I just finished installing mine a while back. I agree with many, the job isn't fun but just take your time. The chrome trim on the bottom I popped out with a screwdrive wrapped in masking tape, just gently pry and work your way down. The windsheild, just cut the rubber facing outside the car with a razor knife and the glass should push out easily. I removed the cowl with a bull point chisel, drill, and drill bit. I went around pecking into each spot weld, and drilled through each one. Very long process but she eventually pops off. Then you do your fab work, and you can eaither weld it on or epoxy the cowl back on like myself and many others have.
Thanks for the great words of wisdom. Will be tackling it this weekend. Once I get it off, I can see where to go from there. Where is the best place to get the round cowl vents? I know people use Mustang ones, just have no idea where the best place to get them is.
Not sure if anyone else used stove pipe... but I did I used solid black stove pipe, its pretty heavy duty. Galvanized and I found a size that matched the original vent, spot on.
