Howdy all! I just joined this forum, and I'm starting to look around at getting my first Maverick! Wanted to hear from experienced owners out there: what makes the Maverick special? I really dig the look, but I'll be honest and say I couldn't be more of a newbie when it comes to this car. Any tips, advice for what to look for, what to watch out for. I'm most likely looking to get a 2 door. Thanks for helping out a FNG... glad to be here.
Cheap, incredibly simple, light weight, different (not a mustang/camaro) and fastback body style at about 3/4 the size and weight of a Mustang.
I didn't have a choice.....my father brought it home and said"I know it aint a 1971 MachI Mustang, but they look great when done right" I was so angry but we was so poor..... In the end it all worked out though. Dad paid 500.00 for a 90 percent rust free ohio car(unheard of these days) I hated it at first but then I saw certain article in SuperFord Magazine about a guy called "Maverick Man" in 1993. I feel in love with the looks of his cars. Turns out He was a member on this site. I started lurking around 1997 on this site. The rest they say is history........ Maverick Mafia 4-Life Holy cow it just dawned on me.....I have owned this car since I was 14.5 years of age. I am now 34.5. It has been 20 crazy arse years!!!!!woooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had my frist one when i was 17 i totaled it i loved the way it looked it was pull me over red it was a auto w a 170w glass packs the car was all rusted out but i still loved that car now i have the poop brown
Welcome to the forum. ome things to watch out for are leaking cowls in front of the windshield, rusty floors and rusted torque boxes underneath. Look underneath and see how much rust is there. 70-72 are the small bumper models, 73 started to change, and 74 and up are the large bumper models. Special models are the Grabber, The Sprint in 72, and The Stallion in 76. There were also some special dealer only models.
Well as in all old cars you must watch out for rust, it's the mot difficult, and expensive, thing to repair. All the other stuff is easier and cheaper to correct. If I were you i would try to look for a maverick grabber, sprint or stallion, they're more expensive than a regular one, but they tend to be more valuable over time.
I'm told by most everybody who asks me about mine. "You don't see these anymore." ...and its true. Even at car shows, I'm lucky to see more than 1 or 2. I myself think the fastback and long hood are cool and they can be fast little cars.
I love the body lines, weight, simplicity, big rear wheel wells and did I mention the weight. Just a all round fun car to drive that is affordable to build. Even in my situation where I have 3 kids and 2 only a couple of years away from post secondary school. I can still have my Mav and turn a ton of heads. The attention it gets is nuts for what used to be a grocery getter car. I guarantee that at cruise nights etc people will by pass muscle cars to get to your Maverick. Not that its why I like my Mav but it sure is fun to see.
I blame my dad. He got me a 71 4door green Mav for my first car back in 85. NOOOOO, couldnt buy the Chevelle I wanted. When I decided to get a classic car the 70 2door just felt right, since a Mav was my fist car. Now I am glad dad got me a Maverick.
Reason I actually have one is I went for a ride in my buddies moms 4 door green mav with paid interior. Think I was about 15? 302 car and it cooked the tire off it. I couldnt believe how fast it was for a MOTHERS car. Talk about a sleeper. That was the beginning of it all for me. One came for sale up the road. Primered red 72 2 door with shackles, alum slots and G60's on the back. I was officially hooked and bought it for 200 bucks. Many more to come after that one.
its my first car but iv got to say u well get all kinda of funny looks everyone will ask about no matter where ur at and the first thing they ask dose it got a v8 but i really like my car and id say u well like one to if u had to ask about it u will end up buying one Mavericks are like drugs once u start u cant stop!!!
i blame my mom,it was her first new car,she picked the color dad picked the rest.72 2dr autumn haze or gold.black vinyl top e70 14 full hubcaps 302 w a c4 fact ac blk interior i was 15 , w a permit mom would send me to the store , dump, local friends of hers to chauffeur them for card partys . dad couldn't figure out why the front tires were wearing out so fast, I would swap em at my buddies tire store so it didn't look like i was burnin em off. he got wise after the alignment check showed it was perfect and pounds of rubber were in the rear wheelhouses.traded it in on aeconoline van when she stopped driving it, i bought 2 more of my own after that both rusty v8 beaters that gave the mustang boys a run. I own moms 72 again bought off the second owner who let it sit for 20yrs beat up a little has 38k and not run from 1990
I blame my father for getting me into these cars. I used to be one of those typical Southern California "MuStAnG bOyZ." The only car I wanted was a Fox body Mustang until my father showed me an ad for a 1971 Comet that he was going to buy. After he explained to me that it was like a "baby Mustang, it even has a 302," I fell in love after looking at it.
