Sub is certainly tight, but it fits. Kick panel speaker grills don't line up, but you can't really see that when you're in the car. Not exactly hi-tech or competition audiophile, but all in all we like it.
Unfortunately no. It's just a gooseneck holder that mounts to the passenger side front-left seat bolt. We have a 12' audio cable (mini stereo jack to RCA L/R) running to the amp in the trunk.
i intend to fab up a similar setup....... first the bacground.... already have a pioneer cd player.... run (line level ) to a 250 watt x-plode 2ch amp powering two badly warping x-plode 6x9s in package tray all installed by po. ok now for upgrade plan!!!! keep head unit ( not my fave but it still works and can be changed later if it dont) , change amp setup to a 4.1 setup...( havent decided on specifics), add kickpanel speakers, upgrade the 6x9s and hide them from the sun, and sub(s) , then an a/b switch for mp3. ( gonna tap a co- workers brain and come up with a circuit to sense the output of the mp3 to trigger a relay to give the amp power, im sure it can be done cheeply he is just a much better electronic engineer than i lol) this way i have am/fm/cd head unit that is old and not too desireable and can still run my mp3 player.... sorry to the i-pod even though the interface is second to none its just too pricy for the amt of storage and too controling in the drm area for me.... ill stick with the generics.
As for the downsides of the Ipod, if you buy an old classic (non touch) their pretty cheap. Also DRM only comes into play if you use itunes. I own an ipod for my car and an ipod shuffle for working out with and never even installed itunes. I run it all through media monkey, and buy my music from amazon. Even then, I'm still not a fan of apple, but its not like I'm going to find a decent head unit with zune connectivity.
I just realized I've been sayinig "iPod" for this entire thread, but in reality we're using an IPHONE which is what the goose neck holder is built for. I suppose an iPod Touch would work as well, but the smaller iPods wouldn't work. Minor point but worth noting...
