Well i fired up the 70 model efi project.... Open headers so it was all kinds of good sounding. But the 90 model mustang motor and efi system works great. Cant wait to drive it this weekend

here are the pics of the leftovers from the sterring box rebuild.

First you take the steering box out of the car (which by the way is a pain in the nuts, i had to remove the exhaust manifold, the clutch arm, and since i have a "Y" exhaust i have to take out the starter motor in order to unscrew the right exhaust tube so i could lower it down). Then, once out, remove the pitman arm, you might need a special tool to do it. take out the three bolts on the top and the nut. Then slide the cover out. now you need to remove the lock to the adjustment nut, a few hits with a hammer and a bronze bar it will get loose, then loose the adjustment nut and take it out. Now you can take the input shaft out, and once you've done this you can take the sector shaft out by pushing it from bottom to top, be careful not to take any of the needles of the bearing with sector shaft, unless you're changing for new ones, which wasn't my case. Right, now take the screw on the rack block out, remove the cover and let out the recirculating balls carefully, there are 54 of them and you don't want to lose them. now slide out the input shaft. at this point you can also take out the sector shaft's shim and lockwasher and replace them if necessary. once you have all the pieces out you need to wash the housing to remove all the old grease (or oil if that's your case), also clean all the parts you are going to use again, i used gasoline for that, but use whatever you feel confortable with. Next do the steps in reverse to assemble, remember to grease the sector shaft and the place it goes in the housing before putting it in its place. It's recommended to use moly or lithium based grease NOT oil, the grease will go softer with heat and that's good for the proper functioning of the box. once you have assembled it all, it's time to grease it, On Bottom Plug style boxes, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. On Top Plug style boxes, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. Now take out the bolt that is farthest from the fill plug. put the greaser gun on the fill plug and pump until grease comes out of the bolt hole. now put back on the fill plug and the bolt tighten them and reinstall the box in your car. Give a few turns from lock to lock so that the grease gets distributed. Voila!

I reached that pivotal moment in all projects, where you flip that lever and finally start turning the ratchet clockwise! Got a crank and four pistons in the block, should have the shortblock done tomorrow, then I'll clean up the garage and push the Maverick in...
