    I hope there comes a time the big Fords bring $$$. My mom has a 72 LTD 2 dr 429 auto that has less than 5,000 miles and has never been driven in the rain...garage kept.

    We figured the car would never be worth much but who knows now.

    Thats kind of a odd car with a 429 in it.There had to of been alot more built with small blocks and 335 series engines.Cool car! I like it.

    That is the 429 that is part of the 385 family (sister engine 460) - very common engine, replaced the FE big blocks and was used from the late 60's up until like the late 90's. Mostly found in trucks, but it was a very popular motor in the full size Fords of the late 60's and 70's. I had a '72 Merc Marquis that had the 460 in it - what a land yacht parade float that thing was!

    We all had a good look at the pictures today over at the Mustang shop, the guys were pretty impressed, but puzzled why some components were rusty, while others that had the same finish weren't....but we'd figure the car must have been "Oiled" at one time.
    Still great money for the car, nice! (y)

    I just now looked thru all the pictures. Very nice. I am glad the guy decided to sell it instead of altering it. Some cars should be left alone. This is one of them. Amazing.

    I disagree 100%. If you are going to have a car that you can't drive to enjoy & can't modify, there are better choices to sit and stare at than a brown 6 cylinder Maverick. A factory-appearing V8 swap and wider wheels, like what Jim Allen did with his '73, would be awesome.

    Thanks Jack i'm glad some of us are on the same page.That was the perfect car to build a correct appearing BOSS 302 or 351 phantom car.Or something ford should have built.My car was a 28,000 mile original 6cyl 3 on the tree yellow on yellow. Yea that didn't fly... obviously.So i guess Dan Hines butchered his car too it's not stock oh and Yellow75's car is junk too now that it got modified.Don't get me wrong the car is beautiful just mind numbingly boring.

    I realize that Eric,mabee it's a Canadian thing but the big cars you regularaly see here with 429/460 "LIMA" engines were Lincolns and T-birds.Most of the LTDs Maquis around here had the M engines or 302/351w engines in them.I guess it doesn't help that by the early 90's when i started collecting BigBlock Fords most of the big cars were rotted away up here.Although the first 429 i bought was out of a 71 Marquis but had a 2bbl on it 320hp rating.

    Interesting. If the buyer at $16,000 takes that time capsule of a Maverick and drops about $5000 more into it with a crate motor 347 and some awesome wheels, will he have a Maverick worth about $8000 ? ................. :rofl2:

    I'm all for building these cars anyway that the owner wants it. But I also can appreciate a showroom stock original car - I hope he drives it and enjoys it the way it is ..................... :thumbs2:

    $8,000 for a car like that. You are correct. That would be hilarious!:rofl2:

    Know of any rust-free, low-mileage, perfect paint, 347 powered cars with awesome wheels in that $8,000 price range? I am definately interested!

    I'd cut that ugly car up in a second!! It's really nothing, it's not a Grabber, Sprint, or Stallion.
    We're definitely seeing the values of some cars increasing, which is cool. But 16 grand for that car is a little much, you can find decent rust free shells for less. Even if you bought a Cali car for 2 grand, and had to spend 5 on body work, you'd still be ahead of the game...Ugly cars deserve to be made pretty.

    :rofl2: There is a 2000 mile Monarch on Barrett Jackson, and it just sold for 5 grand....
