picket up a repo 71-73 mustang fuel sending unit at the spring columbus swap meet in hopes it would be close to the original maverick unit. float travel is the same wire connecter is the same mustang unit is about 3/8 inch longer i will test fit today to check for interference with the bottom of the tank. if need be i will cut it to the correct length.
Looks like it will work for you. I talked in length to Auto Krafters yesterday about fuel senders. They have the 1970 unit in stock. They are waiting for a shipment of the 1971-1974 units. Like everything else, the poor economy has contributed to the production (or lack of production) of repop parts.
The 70 Maverick unit is nearly identical to the 65-68 Mustang unit with the exception of the pickup tube length as well. I recently picked up a Ron Morris reproduction with the EFI return line provision and will modify it for my application.
When you compare them side to side, is the Mustang arm longer? If it is, that'll screw up the reading for sure.
I just bought a 71-73 mustang sending unit there a few differences float arm is about A inch and a half long and the over all the pickup tube is longer.
what did they look like side by side with the ...sock filter on? the sock runs parallel to the bottom of the tank, the 3/8" should not have been a problem...wasn't for mine.
My mustang unit fit just fine but I have a later 16 gal tank. I just had to bend the float arm a little so it wasn't hitting the tank at empty or full.
