Now that my car is finally being painted; what do you recomend for washing and waxing it? Are 'touchless' spray carwashes ok? How about a doit yourself power washer place? Or only hand wash. What kind of wax is best for a new paint job? Thanks
After what you've spent, hand washing should be the only consideration...I like Mothers products for waxes.
My car was painted 3 seasons ago this year. It has yet to see a bucket of soap. Its had the big chunkies blown off with the hose if need be. Like the rear lower quarters or rockers if muddy etc. Its only ever seen micro fibre cloths and Norton detail spray. My body man / painter has his camaro that had 8 year old paint on it. Not so much as a wash mark or swirl on it 8 seasons later. Never seen a wash mit or soapy bucket. I followed his advice and mine is the same. I get comments all the time on the paint. How long do you spend polishing it? Did it just come out of the booth? Nope just detail spray and common sense care. I use this one. No silicone. Thanks for reminding me, That must be the stinky stuff they sprayed on his Mustang they showed me the color of it (it was a tri coat I was thinking or using). Do you wax it after the spray, or was it just the one time wax?
Unlike Darren (who lives in the dirtiest place in Ontario ) I wash my car with soap , maybe twice a year, but I use car wash soap, not dish soap!

My orange car has been painted for close to 9 years now and has also NEVER seen a drop of soap or water. I have neer washed it. Then again...it never gets dirty. DO NOT TAKE YOU CAR TO THE CAR WASH!!!!!
Car washes are for beaters and daily drivers...Not for these old hounds we spend years getting to look good...As stated...Dont wax the car for at least 6 months after painting. Quick detailers like Norton or Mothers or Mcguires are the best way to go.If you must wax...(Not a bad thing by any means) Use a good carnuba wax like Mothers or Mcguires paste wax.They will come with a good applicator. For buffing the wax... Use only clean microfiber towels.(Lots of em) Only put wax on a CLEAN paint surface.You should only have to wax the car once a year if that much. (It will depend on how the car gets used/ environment it lives/operates in. Quick detailer and a couple microfiber towels are your best freind...
There, Craig, I fixed it for you. LOL I hand wash mine a couple times a summer, a coat of liquid wax early on, and use detail spray and microfiber the rest of the time. I'm partial to Macquire's products. Last summer it didn't get washed even once.
I wash mine with car wash soap all the time. Even take it to the wishy washy and spray it off every once in a while, just don't put the pressure real close to it. If washing it was gonna hurt the paint, I think I'd have gotten it painted with a different kind of paint. I built mine to drive, not sit in a building all the time and be looked at!
