Bought a motor recently. Has the following numbers on the block, anyone have an idea of what this motor is ? 28 E68E BA Thanks!
engine ID So,, no way to tell if its a roller motor? I mean without tearing it down. Could it maybe be an Explorer motor?
You've misread the "8" in E68E, it's an "S". All that aside, it's a roller block, as to whether it's got a roller cam, remove one valve cover, one rocker arm and one pushrod. Roller 5.0 pushrods are 6.25" long. As to what vehicle it came from, (unless you pulled it yourself) this can be narrowed down by Id'ing the rest of the parts there.
Thanks all It was sold as a roller motor. It has trick flow heads, Harland sharp roller rockers, canton rear sump pan, EB airgap intake, AED 750 dbl pumper, steel crank. I heard it run and saw some 11.00 time slips while it was in an 86 fox body mustang. I am probably reading the 8 vs S wrong, I'll double check.
You definately are misreading it. There were no E68E blocks, lots of E6SE's out there. Other roller blocks I've seen are E7TE, F1SE. If it's got a main girdle, you'll need to choose your rear sump pan wisely, the stock pans(front sump) won't clear a main girdle's rear main bolts
All that needs to be pulled is one pushrod to tell if it's a roller cam or not. Roller rods in a 5.0 are 6.25" long, flat tappet rods are a half inch longer. No need to disturb the intake.
