Looks good in the car Frank. I am familiar with the technique you used for the texture, I just wasn't sure how what particular technique you used on the rear. Thanks for the info! I may well use the same on my rearend as mine is also pretty heavily pitted.
Thanks..... My new Gleason gear got here this week, I set it up this morning and got the center section installed in the housing..... Then I was able to check the axle fitment, I had to trim a 1/4" off the pass side..... I also cleaned up the surface rust on the flange of the axles and through a couple light coats of paint on them to keep it from coming back( the axles are Strange Engineering SS 31 spline )..... Here is the new Gleason lightend REM finished gear..... Here it is set up in the carrier..... and here are the cleaned up/painted axle flanges.....
nice gear set. i hate trying to get a good read of a pattern on the rem finished gears. i have a question, and i mean no offence just want to know what your intentions are. you have a very expensive lightened gear set, but are using an iron case and a detroit locker which is very heavy. what is your intended use for this rear end? have you seen the platinum trac differentials by dpi http://www.dpiracingproducts.com/ ? they are allot lighter than a detroit.
I agree it's difficult to get a really good read on Rem or Micronited gear sets..... It's just going to be a street/strip toy..... I am a little leary of using an aluminum case for continued street use and I do drive my cars..... I have considered the lighter lockers and such because I strongly believe in lighter weights and less drag, but they are quite a bit more expensive then the locker I have( I got a smokin deal on the locker I have )..... Plus what I am doing for power in this car will enable it to go much faster then it will be legal to go at drag strip with only a roll bar and not a full cage..... The Gleason gear I have I couldn't really believe what I got it for, it is new and I only paid $187 for it to my door..... I have gotten them used before and had great results with them.....
Today I was able to get the axles assembled and installed in the rear, also got the rear brakes on..... The I bolted the rear wheels on with a couple lugs each and jacked the rear up so it has what little weight there is on it..... Clearance looks pretty good all around, it's a little close on the front inner fenderwell but should be fine..... Here's with the axles in..... Here's with the brakes on..... Here's with the wheels bolted on and the rear jacked up.....
Well, about 3 weeks ago I sold the long tube headers I made for this car along with a couuple other items I was on the fence about..... and here's what I have been collecting since..... Next week the turbo kit fabrication will start..... I have everything for the hot side right now......
Oh dear god ... this just gets better ... I was scratching my head when I read 3.10 gear ... until I saw that.
