NHRA rule is that the helmet shall have a snell rating of 2005 since it has an 07 on the outside makes me believe you will be good to go. The helmet will have a tag under the liner that will tell the rating. Matches your car pretty good
i know this sounds funny but,... buy the playstation game IHRA drags! The first one,! the second one sucks. And get to the track, watch what every one else does, and inbetween eliminations go to the pits and ask questions. Last week a saw a chevette running! Yeah! in the 15's i think. So it doesnt matter what you brung, just run! A friend of mine runs a '90's F-250 4x4 deisel just for kicks. Its not how fast you are, its about having a good time. And at quacker city, if your over 10's, you can have a passanger.
That was funny, I didn't know they were any still on the road....... Remember, this is your first time, and I know it will be hard to do, but just try and block out the guy in the lane across from you. One last suggestion..............I'm not sure where you tach is, but for me, I prefer the left lane (my tach is in the far left corner of my eye sight) so I am looking at the tach and tree..............not the other driver. You are racing yourself first..........that is until the guy in the other lane starts pulling away from you.................and if you would happen to red light, just keep going and don't slow down or short shift............the time slip can still help.
Yeah, I never even considered the fact that there will even be a car next to me until today. I hope it won't be much of a distraction. If I beat the other car or have a decent reaction time even, that's just gravy. All I've ever wanted, at least on the first trip out to the track, is a timeslip that's respectable for my experience level and what I brought. All that other stuff can come later. When I've been down the track a few times and I scrounge up a locking diff with a better gear set, then we'll race...
You know what's messed up? Getting nervous about getting nervous. I'm not worried that I'll screw up, I'm worried that I'll get worried and screw up.
I have been lucky and been able to go out by myself. Nobody in other lane. If it isn't busy, they might let you if you ask.
We have a Chevette at our track that runs low 10's in the qtr. talk about a wild ride, real short wheelbase.
Dont worry about the guy in the other lane...Concentrate on what you are doing and worry about the other guy when you reach the turn off at the end of the track...
Okay... So the one thing I cannot do in this car is the one thing that matters most in a drag race - launching. I just can't leave hard with this stock 3.00 gear and open diff, else it's one tire fire all the way down the track if I don't let off. I developed a miss on the way to the track and found a burned plug wire, fixed that (sorta) and made my first run. I was all hopped up on adrenaline, nervous, but FOCUSED, and I did everything I knew I would have to do to get the best run I could get with that severe traction handicap. I did a quick little burnout to get the funk off my tires, left the line real easy, and got a 14.7 @ 75.5, 60' was 2.26. I also beat the hell out of the Mustang next to me, but I kinda wish I hadn't... Because on my next run, I was much less nervous and I gave it everything it had off the line. I burned out like all hell and I knew right away this was going to be a bad run but I didn't let out. I figured if I can't make a good time I'll at least make a good show, so I burned rubber from one end of it to the other through all three gears and got me a 19.7... After that it was all low 15's trying to find a way to leave a little harder than the first time and there was just no way. The only way to get the most out of the car with this rearend is to be very gentle off the line. So, time to start looking for a deal on a new diff. The car's not at all short on power, I just can't use most of it. Had a blast though.
Thanks for the update and glad to hear that you had a good time. If you dont mind me asking ... What type of motor setup are you running? Bobo
