My car has 347, AC with belt removed, PS, 650 carb, shortie headers, C4, 3.00 Traction Loc, Lakewood traction bars, 225 50 15 drag radials. Traction isn't a problem. It ran 8.286 in the 1/8th @ 86 MPH, which should translate to JUST in the 12s on the 1/4. (I need to verify that on a 1/4 mile strip) I think your car with 351 would be in the 12s if you installed the rest of that equipment.

If you drive your car on the highway I think you'll regret steeper rear end gears. My street tires are 235 60 15s and its turning 3200 at 70-75 MPH. That's OK but I wouldn't want it spinning higher on cruise.

Think you might also regret running drag radials or slicks without some kind of traction bars. Lakewoods work fine for me.

In my opinion, changing the gear has got to be the first thing. You will never run 12's with a 3.00 gear. The 8 inch rear you have is probably enough for your engine. You aren't going to put over 300HP to the rear wheels with your setup.

a limited slip unit, 3.25 or 3.55 gears and a 26" drag radial will solve your traction issues and a set of slapper bars will preform well and still give you the drivability you seek.

I was looking for your trap speed and all I found was this on your other thread:
MPH is an indicator of HP and your speed seems really low, even for that ET. I would take it one step at a time. See if you can borrow or buy some sticky drag radials or slicks to eliminate the wheel spin, and then you will have a true baseline to start with.

Yeah it was pretty much a complete failure alright... My best run was when I eased into it lightly, and even then I spun.

I kinda wonder if these timeslips even printed out correctly, because I seem to remember my speedometer showing higher than that, and I also saw at least one slip show an "ET" of 92. I'll try and remember to post them here when I get to work tomorrow, maybe y'all can help me make sense of them.

Tech is for your saftey and the track, anything that can drip burp fluid out is now a hazard, but did you change you tire presure @ street tire is what 3o+ psi try 15 to 20 psi. If that dont work then you need a beter compond tire.:hide:

My suggestion-About a 350 to 380 gear with a trac lock, drag radials 235 or 255/60/15s.Some sort of slapper bars that has the snubber at the spring eye. This set-up worked great for me for 4-5 yrs.(y)

Derek, that guy runs 9's with that car. They are no ordinary tires, they're specially made for him with race compound.

MY first MAv project years back went 14.8 with horrible tire spin. HAd a seasoned racer make some adjustments after he laughed at me. Dropped the tires down to 18 from 30. No burn out.. Playing with launch RPM I got it down to a 13.8 then a 13.30 With him driving the car went 12.80 I couldnt break into the 12's like he did. He raced most of his life though. 2 seconds is possible to lose with a novice driver and no traction.

I ran 275 street tires. 4.11 trac loc 3500 converter.

Based on the 1/8th mile ET, my car should either be in the 12s or so close as to say it can be done. We'll find out in the Fall when the weather cools down. Shorter tires are an alternative to a little steeper gears if you want to keep the 3.00 for highway use.
