a friend wants to remove the PS pump on his stock, 302 w/Air maverick....going to manual steering. we are trying to come up with a pulley to replace the pump. ...any suggestions? ...:Handshake...
Don't really know what it looks like, although if it is similar to Mustang I'd use the steering pump bracket as a template, get some 1/4" or 1/2" steel or aluminum plate, tie it into the head, waterpump with spacers or maybe you don't need them................take the pulley off the pump, get a shaft. or make a shaft, then put some type of bearing in the plate.....oiless bushings maybe...............................................
Just use a smaller belt? Not really sure where the PS pump pulley is but if nothing else major is attached to it theres no need for a replacement.
Why would you need to replace the power steering pump with a pulley? The power steering pump has it's own belt....just leave it off.
You've got to have a way to put tension on the belt. The P/S pump was that way, the A/C compressor is mounted stationary. He just needs an ajustable idler pulley like what's pictured above.
I beleive i have one of those p/s delete idler pulleys. It was on grabbergts mav when i bought it. Your friend is welcome to it if he'll pay shipping. ray
Hi Ray,:Handshake that sounds like just what he needs... got a pic. of that P/S delete idler thingy? I see our join date is almost the same...
