i was wondering what would be the best route to a better running engine... a whole new carbuerator ( and what kind of carb would best fit a 73 mercury comet gt with a 302 with a little power) or to rebuild my holley 4bbl 650 cfm W/vacuum 2ndary?
Putting a 4 barrell won't really gain anything except too much carb. What happened to the origional 2 barrel? Those work good with factory cam etc.. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-64-5102/?rtype=7
when i bought the car...the 2 barrel was gone. The car had a 650 cmf holley on it instead. the guy said that he rebuilt the carb last year....but i don tknow how well he did it
Sound like it has an adaptor plate to fit a 4 onto a 2 barrel intake. Just cause it works don't mean it's optimum. I personaly would put a good 2 back on it. Also, having any plate can create problems. I tried this route when I was younger. And it was tried on a 73 GT also
how do you know its the carb running bad? a vacuum leak, bad ignition component or valve problems could cause problems that are blamed on carbs.
it's an old carb. that has been rebuilt over a year ago... removing...adaptor plate to fit a 4 onto a 2 barrel intake and the 650 would be a good place to start...
One question, that has been alluded to, but not asked is: are you running that 650 on a 2 bbl intake with an adapter? Or is it sitting on an actual 4 bbl intake ?
He says it's a stock intake, but never actually says it's a 2 bbl. With the experience level he exhibits, it could be either and so far everyone's assuming it's a 2 bbl.
I know I am... "With the experience level he exhibits, it could be either."..do you think he will know...
You guys are forgetting the golden rule of the internet. "Pics or it didn't happen." Post some pics of the engine please. Get up close on the base of the carb.
