Hello my name is george, I recently bought a 1971 maverick and was wondering if 17x8 rims with 0" offset will work in the rear with a 2" adapter converting the rear from 4 lug to 5 lug? I plan to change out the rear eventually but for now I would like to run the adapters.

I just purchased a front disk brake kit from csrp for the fronts so I would like to get the right offset for the rears so I can start :drive:......thanks!

its currently a 8" 4 lug......I would like to eventually swap it out for a 5 lug one. That's why I have to run adapters to match my 5 lug front disk brakes.

For $130 you pay for the adapter/spacer...you will be spending more money on a short term fix than a long term fix. You can buy a used 5-lug rear housing with axles cheaper than paying that kind of money for a spacer

the 8" 5 lug rear is the same width as the 4 lug....you will still have to run...2" spacers (not adapters)...even with the 5 lug rear...

Somebody please help me out here. I'm confused. Isn't offset the distance between the wheel mounting surface and the wheel centerline? So, wouildn't a zero offset give a 4+ inch backspace on an 8" wheel? Then 2" spacers/adapters would push the tires outside the quarter panels?

Wouldn't he be just about right with an 8" Maverick/Comet rearend and 8" zero offset wheels and NO spacers/adapters?

You are corrrect. Backspacing depending on the wheel would come to between 4"-4.5" A 2" spacer would push the tire into the quarter panel. I just went through all this with putting new wheels and tires on my car. For fitting the most tire you can get in 4.5" backspacing is just about perfect. I say go find yourself a 5 lug rear and make the swap. Its easy and relatively cheap. Much better than running spacers for a myriad of reasons, especially since they won't fit in this case. Also, thats the exact wheel size I just put on mine and they look killer.

Assuming a Maverick with a stock width rearend

A 0 offset on an 8 inch wheel should produce a backspace of about 4.5 inches which should fit fine on a Maverick. Using a 2 inch spacer with the same wheel will really put the wheel out to far for my taste.

Too far out to look good and depending on the tire too far out to fit.

Ok....I figured it would push them out, just wanted to be sure. I've tried looking for a complete rear end since I purchased the car....but here in S. Cali, I haven't found any! Is there anyone out there that has a 5 lug 8" rearend for sale and awesome enough to ship to 92882!!!? I got a good deal on the 17x8 rims but now I'm stuck!
