A number of years ago I built (actually had it built because I don't weld aluminum), is't an 18 gallon aluminum fuel tank and I didn't use any foam but baffles much like the tank in the article. I also made the recess in my Model A Coupe for the gas cap.

To be honest, I'm like, scared!
Until yesterday I did not know it was so hard to build a tank.
Sump tank, I had never heard of ..
and so far I did not know I had to use some type of foam inside the tank. again, I'm scared!
I'm also lost on the fittings..

So if anyone has any tips for that tank works well, I thank you in advance.
I have a module powerjection 3, and a fuel pump .. and no idea what fittings do I need to put in the tank ..

 

Thanks, I did the body work but a friend did the gas tank, and it was stainless steel not aluminum. I did have an aluminum tank but it wasn't big enough.
Whatever you do, do not use foam. The foam will break down and can cause your entire fuel system full of foam............I have had this happen on two fuel cells. The only thing you need to do is just put in some baffles exactly like the ones shown in the article about building a hot rod gas tank.

As for the fittings I'm sure Russ (JoeDirt) could shed some light there. I am using #8 AN fittings all the way from the fuel cell to the carburetor. I also have a return line although I don't have fuel injection..... it was set up that way.

You're craftmanship is excellent and I have no doubt you can build a great looking and functional tank with sump.

Are you going to build the fuel tank to fit under the car, or in the trunk?

I intent to put the
tank under the car..I did let the trunk flat..but I still not
calculate the tank
volume..if not big enough,then I will put in the middle..half under the car
and half in the trunk..

I hope next week I finish the bodywork and if I decide to put the tank in the middle, then, it will be easy to cut a square in the trunk

Yeah, I don't think YOU need to be scared. Just another step.

My son and I put a 5.0 complete with EFI in his 71 Maverick. We used dual external fuel pumps and a modified pick up and return. Not that much to it.

If I was to do it again I would modify the stock gas tank to use the factory fuel pump from the donor 91 Mustang. It can be done.

in fact,this grill is made of aluminium and the frame is only to check is is Ok..because the frame is in steel..the actual frame will be in aluminium also

bad news: I disassembled my engine and noticed a small gap in the crankshaft ...16suspect I have to change .. so I decided to put a bit more power

GOOD news: more power...I decided to build a street fighter!or at least one bully!

I so want a street fighter myself, have a excuse to build for that now..
As my car is a P.O.S. if I have to take it apart to rebuild transmission and motor why not just build a fighter or bully while I am at it... I should just wait to see how yours turns out might have enough for a build by then

I have a good drag race team assisting mounting, balancing, adjustment, etc. .. I believe the engine will be good.... (they also!)

the balancing of the parts ends in 5 days .. the machining of the block to make more room for the piston rods too .. so when I start building, I'll post the photos
