Looks awesome but... I don't think you lined up the marks correctly. Should be fine for just general driving around though. But uh, I've got that same tach and I think I'm about to give mine the same treatment.
Those mini tachs do not ZERO until you turn the key on. At least that's the way the ones work that I have.
I know that. The marks on the sheet for 1, 2, 3 etc aren't lined up. I have been looking at print for registration for most of my life. I also have that same tach. It's close enough though, but I wouldn't use it for any diagnostic work. I'm also kind of picky about that sort of thing. Sorry I wasn't trying to bash on it. I think it's freaking cool as hell. I think that so much that I'm pretty like to be buying a new one to tear apart. Where did you get the little cap for the pointer? It's a pretty perfect match. Just to point out look at the line for 1 and not the number. the LINE is almost on the same plane as the 2 screws that hold the face on. It's about 2 degrees below the screw maybe. On the new gauge face the 1 is about 5 or 6 degrees below the screw. Or if that doesnt make sense... 1 is about 1/64" below the screw the other is about 1/8". The worst part is that the lines don't actually appear to be equidistant. 7 is lined up just about right but that's because 6-9 are tighter than the rest, while across the apex they are widened out. So that tach is at it's most accurate at 7k rpm and 4k although thats not even centered up correctly either. And now I'm completely ripping it apart like some kind of giant Dbag. thanks guys Here's a graphic design tip for anyone interested. If you rule out a line of text on a straight line and then wrap it around a curve it doesn't line up correctly after the curve. You have to rule it out on the curve. When ruling out text on a curve always start on the apex and match left to right(or right to left).
ise this was to give a touch of style. the tachometer is not exact mark for modified numbers. but just look good. Pointer cap what i found in a junkyard.
Looks like a Fomoco accessory from the early 70s. Very slick. I'd rather have that than cut up my cluster to install it.
