I had one guy that said boy it sure is rough. i asked him what was rough about it and he started bubbering. I said, is it the original stickers or the acid dipped body and doors. Maybe its the cracking enamel paint on the original fiberglass fenders and hood from 1970. I said it did not need a restoration because it was not pulled out of a ditch half chopped up after 30 years. He just sulked away.
There are people like that, but I think a lot more people are turning the corner to................."It's only original ONCE, after that it's not original, it's RESTORED TO ORIGINAL!
This car has history so sure original is nice....but the rest that don't have such a story....restore to original...is nice or resto/mod or hotrod or whatever...as they will never fetch the price as a historic piece will. I could be wrong just my 2 cents. Man I knew nothing about this till this posting and did some research...quite the story!
I have not studied up on the Pinto. The Maverick deal was hard enough to figure out. I was not aware when i started working on the Maverick that Ken also was running a sister car under Don. Ken s car was the std Maverick with the black lower broad stripe and Dons was the GT. I'm not even sure who was running the Maverick in 72 for the designer of the Preditor carb. The clips I found said Don but could have been Ken. I doubt that Don would have let anybody else drive the Maverick after the champ win in 71.
