Just wondering what kind of oil do yall use. I tried the royal purple 10-30 with a Lucas 100% petroleum quart and was good... For about a week, my oil pressure would drop way to fast sometimes past 20. Later I switched over to Castrol gtx 20-50 with another quart of Lucas and stays around 30 at idle and at 175 temp at 101 degree weather. I like that but I want something around 40-50 at idle. What do yall use? :)

20w50 kendall. its what my engine machinist said to use. a motor only needs so much pressure. after a certain point your wasting horse power creating more pressure than necessary. also the oil pump drive shaft can be twisted from to thick of oil. its been about a year sense my car was on the road and i really dont remember what pressures it ran at, but i know i had no concerns.

I run what the engine calls for in everything I own. As far as what brand. What ever bottle looks the best. Who really knows what is better? I've ran Ursa, Ive ran Valvoline, I've ran Castrol GTX. They all do fine.

Castrol GTX 10W30, with a bottle of Lucas break in additive.

why do you want or think you need that high of pressure at idle?

Why do you want 40-50 at idle?? Thats asking a bit much. Mine runs around 20 hot at idle with 10w30. Thats plenty for my car. I work on cars that have an min. idle spec of 4psi. Differs by application obviously.

15-20 at idle in my car is fine with me. I get 50-60 over 3000 rpm hot.

I use Pennzoil High Milage 10-40 in both my car and truck. I also use Purolator or Wix oil
    filters.
I have had great results with the oil for several years now. It cleans well and stays put in the engine! ( kinda like what it's supposed to do )
I have used Purolator or Wix filters for nearly 45 years now. I have tried many other brands that don't perform as well! One brand ( oil filter ) I will never use again is Fram! I changed my oil and filter once with an oil change special ( Pennzoil HM with a Fram filter ). The oil pressure was lower from the start. I ran the truck for about a week and then ( on a friends advice ) changed the oil filter back to a Purolator. The oil pressure was right back to normal! I cut open the Fram filter and the actual filter medium was the size of a small fuel filter!!! What a ripoff! I'm not condeming all of Fram's filters, but if they chinced on the oil filters, I'll guess they did the same on all of them! I like Wix filters best, but they are getting more hard to get. NAPA used to carry them, but they only carry NAPA brand now, but they are made by Wix. We all have our favorite brands, so I hope I didn't step on any toes! :)

I just changed the oil in mine yesterday and put in castrol GTX 10-40. I have used castrol GTX in my cars for years and it has served me well.:tiphat:

I would say that royal purple is the best but its probably the most expensive as well.
If you don't drive very often (less oil changes) then I would say that its the way to go
    IMO.:thumbs2:

I agree completely that higher oil pressure at idle is totally uneccesary and just wastes efficiency while increasing heat output and excessive upper end oiling issues(it is after all a Ford engine..lol). 20-30 lbs is well more than sufficient so long as the pressure rises by about 7-10lbs per 1,000rpm at higher revs.. depending on viscosity, power levels, and ultimately bearing clearances of course.

In the end.. obviously ANY oil.. even dirty.. is better than no oil in the crankcase and only those who are after that last .02 percent of gain need to even worry about such things like this. No matter what oil you choose.. it's likely that tuning viscosity to the particular application will have greater effect than anything else related to the oil used.

There have been many comparative oil tests done through the years.. but i like this one in particular.
    http://speedtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30483

Personally.. I always use synthetic oils in every thing I own right down to my lawn equipment and snowmobiles. But.. I have not much more than advertising and some not so scientific testing to really have any idea of whther it's worth it to me in the long run. Just the fact that most all of the top engineers, engine buuilders, and aerospace use synthetic oils/lubes was enough to convert me to it over the conventional stuff.

Also.. while synthetic may be more suited towards industrial and extreme load applications.. I do know from experience that it can save money in the long run through reductions in viscosity(while still maintaining sufficient sheer strength capability).. for freeing up a tad bit of those frictional/parasitic losses. Which, depending on how many miles you drive, may not recoup the investments higher cost in the long run.. but it helps to make it cheaper than many will believe when just taking the price tag at face value while at the store. Then add the fact that using an extra high efficiency oil filter change solely between full oil changes.. can also be used to reduce cost even more since oil breakdown is of lessor concern with a good synthetic.

People ask me all the time what oil to use. I always tell them,"Castrol GTX, because it has a pretty bottle, and GTX means FAST!!!"

royal purple with a phram tough gard or duragaurd oil filter.
if I dont use royal purple I use mobile1 10-30
the only reason I use mobile1 is because my dad used to have an old ford that leaked oil like it was going out of style and someone gave him a case of mobile 1 and after changing the oil it didnt leak anymore. turns out that old penzoil he used to swear by was more water than oil.
Ill use anything other than penzoil now
