my dad had a mustang and it had a 302 in it the car got wrecked so he took the engine out of it 10-15 years ago so i put it in a comet i bought 2 weeks ago (well traded for) we got it in it and it ran good no smoking at all sunday i changed the oil now it smokes... its not overfilled, i used a good oil filter i dont know it doesnt smoke until the motor warms up did a compression test everything is fine, havent did a oil pressure yet so i dont know about that... somebody told me it might be the valve seals..any suggestions? i used castrol 10w40...
Drive it for awhile and let the rings reseat. If that doesn't do it, I'd go with the valve seals too.
Long shots, but worth checking the easy stuff first -- if its auto, look for transmission fluid in the vacuum line coming from the modulator and if there's oil in the vacuum line from the PCV valve, try a new PCV valve.
You never said what color smoke. If the smoke is dark color then its fuel related...light color is oil burning
White smoke is usually head gasket, check the underside of the oil filler cap and look for the chocolate milkshake. (good place to start)
Any water getting in the oil will get milky oil either by a head gasket or intake gasket or around water ports...or crack casting
well i checked the oil just as pretty as it was in the quart...im leaning towards the pcv or valve seals
it was sitting in a room in a tin shed covered up like i said over 10 years, but i runs likes there is no problem, i hate hate hate to see a motor smoke
