Has anyone ever had any luck restoring old wheels? I have some Crager GT Mags that need to be worked on. They are have some corrosion and would need new chrome. Let me know any ideas you would have. I would like to keep these because they were my first mags,

I believe that the GT's were a one piece wheel...............are they?
You mentioned chrome............I thought the GT's were all aluminum unless you mean the GT's that went on the Shelby GT350's.
If they are aluminum I would strip the paint off the centers, take the rims to someone who does aluminum polishing and have them polish the outer rim.........give it back to you and you can spray paint the centers...............unless the corrosion has turned into pits..........then you would have to weld the pits, grind them down and polish................does that make since?

If they have an aluminum wheel with chromed section they are probably 2 piece wheel and would have to be taken apart to be restored..........there are companies on the West Coast and East Coast that do this.

Which of the two pictured do you have?, or better yet send a picture.

I think rechroming the wheels would cost more than new ones. Might be best to buy new ones unless you have a size that they no longer make.

    BTW...I love Cragars!!

I agree w/ Old Goose and Craig. I wud probably powder coat them after blasting depending on cost. Painting is probably the least expensive.

If you decide to go new, look at the all alloy Cragars. They are NOT uni-lug like the steel rimmed ones. I hate uni-lugs.

I'd go new. Those wheels aren't hard to find.

I was wondering about that too! I thought GT's were all aluminum and had charcoal spokes. :hmmm:
