Sweet, good luck. If you need an parts for the truck (67-72 parts) let me know. My dad has a stock pile of stuff from trucks he has stripped. pretty much anything needed for one of these trucks.
Man, I wish you were closer. I could use two front fenders, two doors, and a tail gate. All that stuff is fixable but I'm not in the mood to do a lot of body work again. Tail gate is bent from someone setting too much weight on it and I'm hoping to straighten it. Sure would be nice to just bolt good stuff on.
Today I'm rethinking the mod motor, EFI, and computer-controlled everything. Maybe there's a better chance of finishing it if its done the old-timey way. Carb, distributor, and non-electronic transmission are sounding a lot simpler. So, today thoughts are running to a '94-'97 truck 351W/5.8L stroked out to 427 CI with carb, MSD ignition, aftermarket alum heads, Broader Perf AOD, 3.73 LS 8.8" Explorer rear and CV steering and suspension. I'm guessing that would probably be 50 more RWHP and run in the low 13s rather than low 14s. Had to pass on the Triton 5.4 because there's too much going on right now. Couldn't take the time to pull that stuff out now. Just as well -- need some noodlin' time.
This is probably a better idea. You can always add an MSD Atomic EFI and get the better mpg and tuneability. it is super simple to wire up and will save alot of headache tryingto wire in a complete Ford EFI system. And it will be a cleaner install without wire harness stuff everywhere. It really is too bad you arent close. We have a pile of doors and a few tailgates that are atleast straight and wouldnt need much work. a bunch of fenders too. Maybe if you still need them around the next Gathering Don could toss them in his trailer. Might be able to ship them on a pallet but that would be a couple hundred bucks.
I'm not sure but it must be a very basic one. Don't know if the VIN tag is still there to indicate trim level. What cha got? I'll have to do something with the aftermarket steering wheel that on it. Needs new door panels and maybe headliner. What cha got?
Yeah, its tempting to drive on out -- my brother lives SW of Tucson. Tempting till I think of about $1000 for gas and a week of driving. Who knows, maybe it will be next year before I need the body panels. We hope to haul the truck home on Saturday. Then I can do some grinding and see what's there. If I just have a small hole in each panel I'll just patch them. I'm watching CR for some local parts. Looks like they come up every now and then.
Jim- On your suspension swap, there is a guy around you and I who put the sheetmetal from a 65/66 F100 on the chassis of a late model Lightning. Interior, dash and all were modified to fit. Lots of work was done in the firewall to make it fit, but he got that 65/66 cab to work. Maybe look at a banged up late model truck with the 5.4/4.6 and take that approach? http://www.mustangandfords.com/feat...p_0511_1966_f100_truck_lightning/viewall.html Seth
Hi Seth, WOW!!! Great project but don't think I'm up to that. Taking the whole chassis, dash, wiring harness, steering column and wheel, ... would make the wiring feasible but what a job to graft the sheet metal!! Interesting, though. Thanks for sending. Did you ever hear where in NC he is/was? I've wondering what I'm going to do about mirrors. Would like to see the F150 mirrors on the bump side. After I get the truck here, stop over some time and check it out. Jim
From memory I have a windshield gasket ( Chrome insert style) side trim clips, couple of side trim pieces, wheel opening mouldings, fuel filler pipe grommets, side reflectors may have some other parts. All NOS Ford. Also have a set of new headers for an FE engine
No chrome around the windshield, so I suppose that's not the gasket I need. Guess the only thing I need is a fuel filler pipe grommet if you want to sell one. Thanks for listing. Jim
Got it!!! Friend Jay, president of the (sorta) local all Ford club, hauled the F100 home for me today. Jay's sons, John and Jeremy, WXO and I got 'er done. It was pretty hot but we survived. Ready to go on the trailer. Winch needs a little help. Its on!! Whoops! Didn't see THAT Bondo before. Stop for lunch at Denny's. Made it home. THIS is going to be fun!! I THINK wifey approves. I'm too old to be pushing that truck around in this heat!! Glad its Miller time!!
Mr. Arnold, from the pictures, it looks like you have a solid starting point. It looks as if, it should be a smooth project.
Hey Charles, Yep, its a pretty solid truck. Has a little bondo here and there but don't THINK its too bad. Hope to find replacement front fenders and maybe doors rather than do rust repairs. But, if I have to, the repairs look to be pretty simple. Jim
