OK, so with a little work I got her running pretty good and stopping better than any of my previous Mavericks (with 4 wheel drums). I'm getting ready to bring the Mav in this week for paint. I want to go to the shop as prepared as I can be.

Its a 1970 Maverick and from what I can find its Anti-Establishment Mint. I'm hoping they can match the color as close as possible as I'm not having the door jams and trunk painted. When I picked up the car the hood and fenders were replaced since there was some minor damage to one fender and some rot on the other.

Any input of what I can tell them as far as a paint code? The tag on the door is faded and nothing can be read.

Since I'm not looking for a perfect paintjob I'm going to Macco for a cheap spray. I'm only looking to make her presentable and all one color and since I actually found avirtually rust free car, I dont need any body work except for some sanding on the hood and fenders.

Here are some pics of the car. If anyone thinks I'm wrong on the color please let me know.

You can do alright with Macco. Let me suggest a couple things to make it come out better. Remove the bumpers and eblems and anything else you can easliy get off, headlight rings, hood trim, etc. They do a minimal amount of prep on the cheaper jobs but the paint isn't that bad, if you put some time into prep you can come out with a presentable job.

I had a car prepped once and had them seal it and shoot the paint...
the door jams and all were cut in.
2 months later, at a car wash, I blew all the paint off they had put on. it came off in sheets the size of pillow cases. they told me..."my primer was too slick"...
the primer under the cut in was the same and none of that blew off...

    note...this was for...Frank Cooper...that could be the reason...:yup:

Hey you get what you pay for, I do know a few that have prepped the car before taking it in and good luck for cheap paint jobs. Frank, did they not sand your primer before painting? And I was not talking about doing that much, I was just talking about getting as much out of the way as possible because I have seen maby painted parts that weren't supposed to be.

I had left that all up to them...I told them... "a 3 year old with a rattle can could get paint on things that would have to be sandblasted to get it off."..:rofl2:

point is...why was it my fault it blew off...I didn't put it on...

Frank, I'mnot saying it was your fault at all sounds like maybe since you had it in primer maybe they didn't sand it or prep it very well if at all. remeber also this is people we're talkng about about here and they may all say Macco on the outside but people are different on the inside.

Poor prep or bad sealer looks to be the cause in your case it could be the Frank Cooper effect though :rofl2:

Well, everything worked out GREAT. Got her painted, put some new rubber on, and put her all back together.

I still need to align the hood a little better and put on the trim, but I've been having too much fun cruising around:character0182:

Color looks better in person then it does on the crappy camera phone I was using. (broke my phone and took the pics with a loaner phone).
