Got a question for you guys! There are two little metal " clips " that mount to the top of my doors in the window track. They are actually in the weatherstrip channel where the glass starts to curve. I can take a photo later if you need one. Anyway these are starting to scratch my glass and they are starting to rust. Can I just remove them? I have no idea what they are for either! If they can be removed, how hard is it? I don't want to break the weatherstrip channel trying to get these off! Right now I just leave the windows down a teense, but the ac works best with the windows closed. Thanks guys
I believe they just pop out if you squeeze the slightly. You can probably get some PlastiDip and recoat them
They are rivited to the weatherstrip. I see no real way to get them off and not risk damaging your weatherstrip. If the weatherstrip is still flexible, should not be a problem to remove.
Well, my friend had a good idea. Just took a small piece of electrical tape and stuck it to the inside of the clip. Works great! If it wears out it's easy to replace. A touch of a dremel and some paint will fix the rust issue! I still can't see what these clips do! My window is guided by the weatherstrip channel.
On a two door, the glass is so wide that these clips were installed to help "guide" the glass back into the channel as the window is rolled up, especially when driving down the road and the wind is helping push the glass OUT.
Thanks, Craig! Being that my car is a 2dr, that does make sense! I saw the beveled edge on them. I don't recall having any issues with the glass tipping out, but I honestly have never looked at them while driving and rolling them up, either! I'll have to try that. I just learned something today! Ford isn't in the habit of putting stuff on if it's not necessary!
