"Though I drive through the valley of imports, I shall fear no turbo; For torque art with me. Thy eight pistons and pushrods, they comfort me..."

I love this. May i use it elsewhere?

I agree that's so cool. I can't wait to check it out. Its always great when another owner and their maverick or comet gets some well deserved recognition. People need to know how cool these cars are. Again :thumbs2:

    GoodGuys Preparations

The GoodGuys show is only 2 months away so I guess its about time I start working on The Beast again. I've spent the last 4 months researching, planning and purchasing parts. They have finally all just about showed up.

These are the new front brakes. They are of course Wilwood 13" rotors and 6 piston calipers. They should really help bring the speed down in a hurry.

Along with that, I've purchased these dropped spindles from Fatman Fabrications. I had to have them modified to fit the brakes. They are built only to work with Granada 11" rotors and Camaro calipers. Its was a simple, yet costly modification. Not sure why they weren't designed that way to begin with seeing that they only fit the early ford platform. They are embarrassingly heavy but will help solve a number of suspension issues including my sway bar problem.

And then to help fill the wheel wells a little better, these are FR500 wheels. Sizes are 18X9 +30 offset for the front and 18X10 +22 offset for the rear. I'll have to measure the front and rear for required spacer size to make them fit. Its highly possible that the front will not need a spacer at all.

Tires will be BFG G-Force T/A KDW 265/35-18 front and 295/35-18 rear.

I still need to purchase long wheel studs and open lug nuts and wheel spacers. Hopefully this will be a simple install.

looks great, I like the rims. I didn't know there were dropped spindles out there, what was the reason you decided to go with them?

I went with drop spindles to solve the problems my excessively low ride height is causing. Primarily lack of travel and sway bar/strut rod interference. If you go low enough, the Strut rod will actually come into contact with the sway bar (15/16" bar and TCP strut rods) Currently I have only an inch or so to the bump stop (which has been cut in half already) and am at the top of the shocks range of effective travel. Most shock manufacturers recommend that, at your static ride height position, the shock should have ~40% of travel available for bounce. I have maybe 15%. Secondly, it will also realign my control arms back to where they will provide the most efficient camber gain through its travel for performance while maintaining a street friendly static camber. Currently, the suspension is working as if it is compressed already by 2 inches or so. Therefore any actual bounce I encounter, ramps up the camber gain too much, puts my ball joints into a possible bind situation, and runs out of travel by hitting the bump stop.

These spindles are advertised to provide a 2.5" drop.

should make a big difference in the handling then...how exciting. doesn't seem like the installation would be too hard. if you take more pics I would be really curious to see, your car is really coming along impressively

Thats the old design. I would have been better off if they hadnt changed it. The new design isnt in the catalog yet but I had them send me a photo.
