Why are you using a mustang tank?

Because no one makes a reproduction for the 71-73's..... You can use the bigger 74 up 19 gal tank but it hangs below the rear valence on the early cars.....

There is a tech article on it, here's the link..... http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=35490

This week I made new fan brackets so I could move the fan a little higher on the radiator, I bolted them on this morning and mounted the fan back on the radiator..... Then I put the radiator back in the car for mock up, then I drew up a little print for a heat shield.....

Once again I was a little stuck until I make the heat shield, so I went back to working on the fuel tank stuff..... I cut the rear piece with the 2 npt outlets off the back of the tank sump, made a new rear plate for it..... I welded a -10 and fitting to the plate and flared a nice radious where the fuel will flow into the fitting in the tank..... Then I welded the rear plate back on the rest of the sump.....

Here's the new rear plate with the an fitting welded on, then the inside where I flared the inlet side of the fitting.....

Here is where I welded the rear plate first inside then the outside.....

After getting the rear panel on the sump I went by work and made up the heat shield panel.....

This morning I got the fittings aligned properly in the water pump block off plate..... Then made the -12 hoses for feed from the electric water pump..... After that I fit and mounted the heat shield I made yesterday..... Now that all the stuff is mocked up that I feel was necessary I started removing everything from the engine compartment..... All that is leaft now is the block and mock up trans, then I can get the sheemetal work finished in the engine compartment and get it repainted.....

Here's the timing cover/water pump block off plate set up on the bench.....

Here it is on the engine with the hoses made.....

Here is the heat shield in place it will also get coated with the rest of the hot side stuff.....

Got the block and trans case out this morning, also removed the k-member..... Then got the repair panel in the right front apron welded up and the splash shield for the air filter welded on..... Cleaned all that up and seam sealed in a couple corners.....

Here's the once again empty engine compartment.....

The right fron apron the needed to be finished up.....

and the right front apron all rought in and the splash shield for the air filter welded in the outer fenderwell area.....

Frank I'm curious about something. On the drivers side water fitting, why did you use that 180* fitting instead of simply turning the 90* fitting to the direction you wanted the hose to face? You've gotta have a reason, it's just bugging me that I haven't figured it out.

Because with it turned out the hose ends did not line up so good and the hose between them would have only been about 3"long..... It would have been nearly impossible to get the fittings on.....

Oh ok, the hose looks longer than that in the picture. Seems I'm always asking you the tough questions! Keep up the great work!

Oh and I really like the fittings by the way. Are they stainless? I was thinking of using the black hose on my car too.

I got it all sanded and primed the bare metal areas today..... Basically just need to do a little light sanding, mask it up, etch prime, paint and texture next Sat.....

    Here's what it's looking like.....
