if you had 1000 dollars to put towards a mostly stock 4 door comet with a 302 in it what would you do?

    go

besides for miscellaneous bodywork, i was thinking of a 4bbl carb and intake, new rear shocks and econoline leafe springs, paint job, carpet kit, speakers, headliner and window seals, different gear ration in the back, maybe a new defferential?

what would you guys do if somebody handed you a stock comet and a 1000 dolars?

I would repair all the stuff that was broken/worn out (for example, tie rods, shocks, leaks, plugs wires) maybe do a petronix upgrade

X2 71gold is right ...new stuff cost bucks, $1000.00 is not going very far, I have spent that much on interior and still need more done.

Sell the 4 door, and use the money plus the thousand, to buy a 2 door.

Dittos to that. I would address all safety issues (brakes, suspension, tires) before I would spend a dime on hopping up the motor.

Wow!! thanks for all the quick input. i should have mentioned: tie rods have already been changeed, and front suspension is all good, new tires all around, drums all around are working good (can someone point me in the right direction of a good thread for front disc swap?), it has electronic ignition. i thought about getting a 2 door instead, but i am thoroughly attached to this car.

the rear has air shocks (hate em) and i figured id raid the pick your part for the leaf springs and gt40 heads when they have their half off sale

i have another comet sitting in the backyard that i got for 600. grabbed lots of parts off of it. it was an inline six. fresh headliner. grabbed the stereo and package tray too. just need the speakers.

as for the interior, i got new seats waiting to be put in, i just need to grab a crpet kit. ive read a lot of good stuff about stockinteriors on this site. door panels are ok and armrests are good.

where do i get window seals?

in conclusion: get it running well before hopping it up. got it thanks you guys

also, how much would it cost to change the gear ratio and differential? how do i do that? i was thinking 3.55

oh and COMETFEVER, i find that the four door is more attractive than the 2 door. its got a nice ass. i just wish it had 2 doors lol.

zoomzoomguy, i am deffinately gonna get on those wires and leaks. thanks

moneymaker1, sorry about the mav. that was a rad build, and what happened was truly a tragedy.

darren, you have an excellent point. thanks

I don't know how fresh (old) your engine is. But if it has around 100,000 Miles or more. You might want to think about upgrading the internals of the engine before you put on different heads and such. That is where I would spend the money first.
And while the engine is out, paint the engine bay.
This will go along way if you are trying to restore it.

Second I would spend the money on the body. Cleaning up all the rust or just giving it a new paint job.

Third, work on the body underneath of the car.

    Fourth, Interior.

Last, all the little hard to find parts!
    That is what I did.
