Well i went out to test my new 302 this weekend that i built..car has stock suspension..old worn out stuff.. there wasn't much for traction on street tires..i learned they do not belong on a track as my first run i went sideways 3 different times, scared myself quite a bit...i ended up finding that i could not leave on the converter and had to ease into it to get going without spinning the tires, best i ran doing this was a 13.6 the next step will be slicks and steeper gears along with suspension. here's a couple video's that were taken..all in all it was a fun weekend. but going faster with maybe a 408 might be in the future sometime when i get better at this racing thing. Motor is a 302 .30over with forged KB flat tops, XE274 cam, performer rpm intake, scat rods, holley 650DP, RHS alum. heads w/180CC runners, gear drive, msd distributor, box, and blaster coil. rear end is a 9" with 3.50 gears Moser axles/Strange spool. the tires i had on and couldn't get traction with were 295/50/15 firestone firehawks
Sounds like you had a lot of fun..................as they say, "Practice makes perfect", and the more seat time you get the more comfortable you will be. Looking forward to hearing about you breaking into the 12's.
You're headed in the right direction. Keep us updated on your progress. Just be aware it's a highly addictive sport!
A set of tires should help you out a lot. It's fun. I got home from the track at 4:15 am Sunday morning. Lost in the final round on a double breakout.
NO disrespect but I would expect your car to run alot faster times. Maybe I am just not used to mav/com's. I would think the motor would be good for 320-350hp? 295 is a pretty decent amount of tire, and coupled with a spool and 3.50 gears? What transmission? What was the 60' Just curious because I have a similar setup and would like to compare when I get it to the track.
i have a built c4 transmission..my best 60' was a 1.92...but you have to remember i had to pedal it and not leave at higher rpm with my converter
Get yourself these things if you are going to start bracket racing Logging software or a notebook and right down the conditions of every run, such and temp, humidity, wind directions, tire pressure etc. Bring a good pressure gauge and make sure that the tire pressure is the same on every run. Filling your tires with nitrogen will help since it will not have the water vapor that can cause tire pressure to raise or lower. I assume that you are running the stock leaves, Get or make yourself some leaf spring clamps, that will stop the leaf springs from separating and cause wheel hop. If you don't have a tach get one. Find a online Christmas tree and practive very day, you should be able to get down to cut .520 lights or better with no prob.
to me at this moment and what I can see in the future... I don't really care if I win or not, sure It would be great but with that being said, it's a hobby for me and I'm out to have fun..and make it down the track in one peice.. All my lights this weekend were .1 and .2 except for one which I was sleeping when I changed tire pressures ect. I noted it as well
If I remember Eric's RAT's were in the 0.14's to 0.2's, but he did have a nice .09....pretty good for the first time on the track..........................IMHO
