I am working on putting a 1988 5.0 ho 302 into my 73 Maverick. I will have a manual fuel pump, carburetor, holley 1850, stock heads. It originally had serpentine belt reverse rotation water pump. I am getting stuck on how it all works being reverse rotation. If I want to go with v belt running alternator, water pump. do i install a standard water pump?
What oil pan is on it now? Dosnt look like a front sump that you will need. Also going to need to adapt the dipstick tube into the front timing cover.
sense putting on a mechanical fuel pump you have to change the front cover to one with the fuel pump provision in it. you will also need to put the drive eccentric thingy on the end of the cam to drive the fuel pump. the timing cover is a factor on what rotation water pump to use. so if you want to go with v-belts then get a standard rotation water pump and timing cover
I have a 74 302 that I am using for some parts. i have the front sump, oil pan,and oil pickup tube, timing chain cover. I figured I would also change the eccentric on the timing chain to pump the fuel pump.
And Thennnnn..... Plus you are going to need a maverick style water neck or come up with a custom hose to use the Mustang water neck thats on there. Make sure you use the later Mustang 50oz. balance harmonic balancer. and use a matching 50oz. flexplate or flywheel that will adapt to whatever trans you are running.
Oh yes. I was looking at that water neck on the 5.0 sticking straight up like that. I am swapping that as-well. I have a 50oz. 157 flex plate with 10.5 bolt spacing for the tork converter. I was thinking of going with the tork convertor and c4 from the existing 250 inline. i do have another c4 from the 74 comet as-well.
Took the 250 out a couple days ago. Here is what I have. I'm going to paint the engine bay flat black.
I have some hooker headers 6901 going in. I will install some old ones now for the engine break in and swap later. I don't know what the little extra pipe is for on the header? I was thinking of cutting it off. There is also the bracket on the engine mount. I don't know what it is for? I would like to remove it if there is no need for it. Anyone know?
