There really arent any specs to it. The car is back on the ground now. I've got a small list of things to do before I take it to get aligned and then we'll start looking for problems. I had to remove the outer shock tower supports so I'll have to come up with a different bump stop option.
Back on the ground. Just need an alignment, some repositioning of the brake lines, and tweaking. And then I found this sitting where the car was after I pulled it out. I have no idea what it is from.
that looks like a small wheel bearing from a jack or some sort of caster. ive never seen a bearing like that on a car. i doubt it came off of yours.
Chris, that's gonna be one of those things that when you get to Cruisin The Coast, you'll be saying..."So THAT'S where that damn bearing went!!!" Seriously though, you gonna make it down this year? Right around the corner.
No kidding! Unfortunately we are not going to make it this year. If we make it at all, we will be in my sisters Falcon. We'll be flying down to Tallahassee and driving it back that week. Should be an interesting trip.
That looks great !!!!!!! I almost got some wheels like that. wasnt sure if they would fit. I dont want to cut my wheel arch. I was looking at the 9" wide ones. Maybe I should go ahead and get some.
Thanks. I agree. The AR Hopster Wheels, though they looked nice, just didnt provide the aggressive attitude I am going for. Custom backspacing would have been preferred but would have also been at least 4X's as much money. At least now, using spacers and cheaper wheels, I can play with the backspacing to get the fit just right. It IS a very tight fit. Especially at this ride height. I had to remove the outer shock tower braces (bump stops) and may still have to modify the inner fender skirts for full turn radius under hard cornering. Im still unsure about the rear. Trimming the fender lip a 1/4 inch may still be necessary as well as a BFH massage to the inner wheel tub. Hopefully this weekend, I'll have my alternator back from the shop, brake lines rerouted and bled, and alignment at least close enough to take it out and see if anything brakes. Oh yea... Well. Another Good Guys is in the books. Im building a Maverick Fan Base one show at a time. The announcer especially enjoyed the car. He asked for a ride and I decided to do him one better and let him drive it. After giving him the run down on what to expect out of my car, we took off. His remarks afterwards where something like "I knew it looked awesome and could perform, but this car hauls AND it can handle. Its predictable and capable given some fine tuning." The car is a completely different animal with the last round of changes so I had to unlearn how I was driving it before. My slowest time was 66 seconds and found my way to 61 second runs by the end. This was good enough for 4th place in the Street Machine class. Which was within a 1" of being in second place. 1st place was almost 3" faster. Couple pics with the new tires and wheels: This first video is Chad, the announcer, driving. He ran a 65 taking it easy. He really does knows how to drive. He drove the, dialed-in, Ridetech Camaro on the last day and was running 60's. Here's my fastest run. I was surprised it was the fastest given my thoughts while going around it were of how I could have been harder on the gas pedal and I missed several targets along the way. So either I've been trying for the wrong lines or this car is capable of running 58-59 as is. Maybe lower as I get it dialed in. Im thinking its the later. You'll here some scraping noises in the corners. Thats the inside edge of the tire rubbing on the front of the inner wheel housing. Im going to have to clearance that area. Im sure its limiting my suspension travel some. Heres a video I found that someone posted from this spring.
The car looks like it stays pretty flat through the turns, not much body roll at all, which is strange for a Maverick. Awesome!!
